I am trying to work out a way of getting the Met Office to email me a forecast once a day and todate I've drawn a blank.

Sailmail appears to provide a forecast on demand, but I've not managed to get this to work.

Does anybody know if this is possible? Or should I contact the Met Office and suggest this as a service improvement?

Yes it is possible.
Have a look at www.saildocs.com , ask their help file and you will find instructions how to automatically get the weather product you need emailed to you, at the frequency you need, for how long you need.

Had to snip stuff from the bottom as it's too long to post.

Looking at the saildocs page you can get it to send once a day if you want.

sub FZNT23.KWNM
sub FZNT24.KWNM

This enters a subscription for the Boston and Chesapeake Coastal forecasts (see the "nws-atl" index). By default these are fetched once per day. The period and time can be overriden by adding commands as follows:

FZNT23.KWNM time=00:00 interval=6

This will fetch the document every 6 hours beginning at 00:00z. Subscriptions are normally entered for 14 days, a different period can be specificed as follows:

FZNT23.KWNM days=7

A confirmation will be sent for any changes to a subscription. In addition, a full status listing can be requested by including the command "status", e.g.

FZNT23.KWNM days=10 time=12:00
status

Thanks for the posts. Looks like I am doing something wrong on the sailmail site as I am getting FTP and HTML errors, but doing this on a smartphone when I get back to the UK I'll try and set it up on my PC.

Thanks all sorted.

If I use the boat email address it works if I use my personal one it does not, due to the security I have on my personal one.

This is exactly what I was after. :D
