was looking at one of these fitted with a single volvo 270hp what are thoughts of these boats in general seaworthy,well fitted out etc
 
MF 925

Friend of mine had a new one ordered. It duly arrived at the importers and they discovered the layup was so poor and so thin you could almost see a torchlight throught the hull!! It was returned to the factory in France...suffice to say my mate didn't complete the purchase of any boat from that yard!!!

That's not to say they are all like that as the Merry Fisher range are very popular so maybe a one off??
 
We had a smaller MF when we started out and it was a good simple sold vessel. The 925 (now updated as the 10) is the biggest one with a small FB (the 10 is bigger on FB). Basically a budget FB cruiser but very capable by all accounts and the one I went on had good sea manners. Most have single engine but some have twins. Slowish - cruise with S/E 15-17k when loaded up. All MFs are shaft driven. Apparently trim tabs help with stability and many do not have them - but this would be for 925 owners to comment.

a few years back I was looking to buy with my brother and looked at the MF925, but finally settled on the Antares 980....only then to decide to go our separate ways! But all in all the Antares 980 is a far better design, a little bit wider so better stability, twin Nanni engines (well most have anyway) seemed very economical and better maneuverability, and most importantly the side cabin had twin bunks. Fit and finish also seemed better and slightly less utilitarian than MF. When we were looking the 980's were snapped up as soon as they came to market, but all the MF925's we looked at seemed for sale for an eternity..

But I did then go out an get myself a MF625, cheap and honest, easy to live with and really enjoyed it...
 
For my next boat (Number 10) I would consider buying an older boat with a perfect hull and re-engine it with the latest "nanni" or similar diesels. With new engines you get the same warranty as you would with a new boat, and if you are careful you would buy engines which are actually manufactured in 2010, and you can open a dialogue with the manufacturer directly although you will have to buy through a distributor. The other advantage is, especially if you are going to buy a twin engined petrol boat, they are as cheap as chips. I have a small 22ft (6.6m) "Guy Couach" which is the for-runner to the Merry Fisher, Ocequeto type boat and it was built properly (bit like a small Nelson) and I believe that when they stopped production the hull moulding was sold to one of the two manufacturers which I have just mentioned. Anyway the point is that, hull shapes change very little, my hull made in 1986 is identical in shape to a new Ocegueto which you would buy in 2010. My boat has an 72hp Iveco but I notice that another one has has a new Nanni (Toyota) 150 hp diesel which will probably be even lighter than the original 72hp. This is what I would consider. Ps Anyone on Winderemere who wants to chat about boats.
 
MF925 is a super boat if that is what you are looking for.

The Antares 980 sits somewhere between the MF925 and Jeanneau's Prestige 32.
She sits there on both price and fit out.

The 925 is a pretty good sea boat. I've been in all sorts if weather in them and always felt safe, even if the performance needs to be dropped to 8 or 9 knots in the worst of it.
It is available in either single or twin engines. Twins are heavy, slower and more wallowy, not to mention very juicy. The single is fairly light and nimble, but don't expect more than about an 18 knot cruise (with a clean bum).

925's priced sensibly sell quickly.
As with all boats, the owners often believe the boat is worth a lot more than it really is.
Early 925's in good condition will be getting just short of £70K.

....don't expect luxury on the flybridge, but it's a fun place to helm from and makes berthing so easy.
