Think of buying a MF805 in the near future. What is the bad, good and ugly about them if any. Which engine is the best is it the Volvo 200hp or the Nanni 200hp . I do know some of the issues with Nanni 200hp 4.90TDI as i have one in my current boat.

I was under the impression the nanni was a good engine, been on a few boats with them and they seemed OK. Pretty sure they have limited electronics which is a good thing. Are you looking at the D4? I have been told the nanni smokes more than the D4 and isn't as smooth.

Had one a few years back now, great boat but a bit basic and poor use of space compared to other 28ft boats but that's due to the aft cockpit.
We had the Volvo 200hp.
Never give a mins trouble well proven engine and smoking issues sorted that the 41's was renowned for.
Ours was a 2004.
I would rather the "commercial Volvo" engine than a Toyota car based engine with a cambelt personally.
We did 150hrs in our 1st season with her.
Bow thruster is a wise resale option as a single on a shaft can put people off if she doesn't have one.
Hope that helps.

We are on our second 805. We' weregoing to trade up to something a bit larger but decided that the formula was just about right for us. On the second season with this one , 41p with 850 hours on and running sweet as when brand new. Just added VP trimtabs cos 805 are not naturally trimmed well with fuel and batteries on the opposite side of the helm , tend to run on their left ear a bit . Now super and no having to put a cushion on the seat when tramping on a bit. Bear in mind these are mass produced boats therefore you can't expect the quality and design superiority of , say , a British or Scandinavian boat. However you only pay half the price and for instance you can pick up a good 2004-5 for mid 30 k, about the same you'd pay for a 25 year old nimbus or seaward. Easily handled solo , loads of access for maintenance, bow thruster nice but not essential, silly layout re bilge pumps which need to be improved, prone to sucking spray through the side air intakes when taking chop on the side in a stiff wind and pooling in the engine bay. Don't know about the Nanni , had lots of landcruisers and love the engine in the car but Toyota don't sell them as a marine engine do they! We get 15 mph at 3000 rpm and top out at 23 at 3800 and not with a paticularly light load.
Good luck

You might want to consider the Beneteau Antares 760 as an alternative. Very similar design concepts and with the same engines.

We've had one for three years now and are in the process of getting her ready for sale, reason being that Mrs HaC isn't much into boating now ad we could use the cash elsewhere. s I'm now planning on back to sail, it seems appropriate to sell her ready to go at the start? of the season...

So can anybody tell me do they come as standard with a depth gauge cant seem to find it mentioned in any of the spec

cheers up front

I nearly bought a 805 before I ended up with my current 815 Ocqueteau . The 805 is a decent boat and the only reason I did not buy it was because of the interior layout which lacks a door to close off the sleeping quarters.

As for your question about Nanni engines, my current Nanni 200hp 4.390tdi purrs like a cat and I sail an average of about engine 120 hrs every season. I am no mechanic myself but I do all service myself , I could even change the timing belt and tensioner as the Internet is full of detailed how-to guides about this very popular Toyota engine. Advantages are that it is completely mechanical and no need for special diagnosing software, so any basic automobile mechanic can diagnose and fix it. Parts for it are dead cheap when you buy from an automobile shop instead of a marine shop. For example, a fuel filter for the engine costs 8 gbp, oil filter 7 gbp, alternator belts 6 gbp for 2 , set of 4 calibrated injectors 180 gbp , turbo 90 gbp , timing belt and tensioner 30 gbp , while the array complete with camshaft and valves 350 gbp just to mention a few. What’s not to like?

Sorry to pick one part of your post out but the 805 does have a door to close off the sleeping quarters.
