Merry fisher 755

Hi all

I have owned a ballistic 5.5m rib for 5 years or so and have been blasting about the Solent with the wife. We now have 2 small kids (ages 1 & 4) and to really want upgrade to something with a cabin that will be safe and comfortable for a night or 2 away.

The budget is £50000 and we would prefer new or nearly new to give us piece of mind. We both have power boat level 2 and are hoping that our rib experience will give us enough know how to step up in size.

The perfect boat would seam to be the MFN 855 but at the moment may be a little out of our price range. There don't seam to be too many reviews of the 755 so I was wondering if anyone had any practical experience with them

I've struggled to understand the 755, because it is barely any longer than a 645 and by trying to squeeze in a proper heads compartment that is too small to use for most men, the interior seems less capable than the smaller 645. It goes faster, has a bigger range and I would expect it to handle rougher seas a little bit better than the 645 though.

Anyway, I'm sure it would be a good boat, but having looked at both myself I found the 645 to actually be a better boat for a young family - with the bonus of it being cheaper.

I have just sold my MF645 and are upgrading to the 855 which is due from the factory in early October. Rb_stretch is dead right about the size of the 755 as it doesn't seem much bigger inside than the 645. We have stayed overnight on our 645 more than twenty times including nine days in a row since it was new last October. It is a bit of a squeeze though for two adults and a 14 year old. You may want to consider the new 695 which seems to be a stretched 645 with a head. The alternative is to stretch the budget and go for the 855.

I have a MF 755 Marlin (fishing version). I did look at the standard 755 but I would say it is really tight - I could not actually squeeze myself into the heads. TBH you will be struggling to find a 24 foot boat that has good accommodation to sleep 2A and 2C. An Orkney 24 is much better finished internally and has a proper sized heads, but would not sleep 4.

I do hope the quality of the fittings on the 855 is better then my 755. Have had to change every screw on the side rails (rusting) and I was very disappointed that Jeanneau did not provide more technical information and test results for engine / prop combinations. It's a heavy boat for 150hp.

Thanks guys chatting to the wife it seems we may have to continue saving for the 855. I think it's at SIBS this year so a good chance to ask some questions and clamber over one.

Just one more question about the 755, how does it handle the Solent chop?
