Merc spares. C\'mon!!!

I can't believe I've had no replies to my last (and 1st!) post asking where I can get Spares for my Merc 60 at a reasonable price! £191+vat for 1 Con-rod is not funny! Importing the spares from the USA seems to be the cheapest option at the mo, but the possibility of having three new pistons and rods made from scratch has not been ruled out. All this is providing I can get the bores oversized. All the engineering firms I usually use are unable to carryout the work 'cos the head is cast to the block and as such, the bore is a "blind hole".
I'm new to this forum but the posts I have put on other "non-boaty" sites have had a better responce.
Cheers anyway, Owelly.

I can't really help you with this, but wanted you to know that your post has at least been read. There may be more expertise on the MoBo forum for this type of question.

Good luck
Tom

This is un-tested info, but according to the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.sail-trek.com/>Warrior Owners site</A>, spares for the Mercedes OM636 engine can be sourced at:

<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.lancingmarine.com>Lancing Marine</A>
or
<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.west-4x4.demon.co.uk>Westfield</A>

Can't vouch for the quality of the info, but maybe of some use?

Cheers

Wayne

This may be evidence of the confusing target readership of PBO. Although one might think from picking up a magazine or reading the header of these pages that it is targeted at both motor and sailing yachts, the fact is that the vast majority of readers and contributors are sail boat owners.

In your case, if I remember your first post correctly, you are looking for components for a relatively large outboard motor? The number of contributors here, and possibly even on the MoBo site, who have such engines is pretty small.

Sorry to hear you have had a poor responce, but most sailors only use the small disposable type outboards for the tender. You may well find better answers with the motor boat chaps or the following sites.http://boatdoctor.com
