I'm looking to buy some melamine mugs that stack inside each other (i.e. the handles are near the top of the mug, and the mugs taper slightly). My Westerly Storm has a galley layout that is designed to take such mugs, but I'm having no luck finding any. I've tried caravan and camping shops to no avail.

Anybody any ideas?

There is a wonderful chandlers in Horta in the Azores that does a wonderful line in melamine mugs, both stacking and non-stacking. Very cheap and a wide variety of very tasteful designs, which is something that one does not often get with melamine. The only problem is that they don't do mail order.

the trouble with melamine is it discolours so badly, i had it on my boat and have since got rid of it, oh and it sinks just like a china one if you drop it over the side

I was wondering what to do with our very badly stained melamine mugs

Cheers

Milton sterilising fluid, or Boots equivalent. Less embarrasing to buy than denture cleaning tablets and a heck of a lot cheaper!

Just a thought.

Starbucks do a great stainless steel tall travel mug, it has no handles and tapers so it will stack nicely. It has a removable lid and non slip base so would be ideal for a variety of conditions. Bit pricey at about £15 each, but will last forever and I bet it'd float. I use mine everyday for a caffeine injection on the way to work in the morning.

Re: Cleaning

I have a complete set of Melamine plates / cups / etc. and all are as the ady bought - not stained etc. But they seem to hace a 'glaze' on them ... and a nice Anchor and Rope motif !!

I think the glaze is there to stop the staining .... maybe !!!!

But I'll remember the denture tablet idea ...

Saw some cheap ones in Tesco the other day, don't know whether they will fit though... Or try John Lewis, they usually have a few in the kitchen area.

I'd rather be sailing... :-)
