Meet Callisto

I asked Simon and Guy, two consecutive previous owners, and it's a "No" on keelbolt inspection as far as they can remember. Simon did have "all the broken ribs replaced" by Nick!

Worth calling Nick to ask him, he's got a very good memory. Prepare for a long chat!
Oh wow, that you so much for getting that info!

They are definitely getting pulled then! Wish me luck!

Hi there,

I’ve recently acquired a wooden Folkboat called Callisto that is ashore at Shamrock Quay.

These pics are from 2018 when she was prepared for sale by a previous owner.

Callisto is my first yacht and I’m new to wooden boat ownership, but not to sailing.

I will be on here asking many stupid questions, the first of which is this:

Would it be an error to patch paint?

I’ve seen a variety of opinions on whether to strip back or paint over existing top coats.

There are a couple of areas where the paint has bubbled, can I strip these areas back and focus on building the coats back up there?

I want to sail her asap :)

Cheers

Graeme
Good afternoon. I was one of the custodians of Callisto. Circa 2002 - 2008. The chap who had her before me did check the keel bolts I believe. A long while ago now. I changed her mast from an old corroded Ali one to the anodised one on now. I raced her a fair bit at Folkboat week and RTI and had some good results in both. I had the cabin sides splined as the join needed attention. Loved the boat and the fact she had an inboard engine to make cruising such an ease with the ability to get anywhere should the conditions need an engine. Simon bought the boat from me. We are still in touch. The meticulous detail to Callisto’s maintenance was to be admired under his ownership with the help from Nick Gates. She is a special boat built by the Medina yacht co. Possibly the cabin has been lowered by someone years ago as a few inches lower than standard on a Medina boat with a dog house.
