Two years ago we had a trip from our home on the Thames around to the Medway, we went all the way up to Tonbridge and had a great time. This year we have booked a mooring in Chatham for a month and want to explore the tidal area in and around the Medway. We will be doing a Swale island trip and one to moor overnight in Stangate creek but other overnight suggestions would be appreciated.

Moorings at Harty Ferry so long as it's not blowing hard. Pick up one of our club ones on the S side, (two of them, orange, marked HCC, about 100m west of the causeway) for a night for free (don't let anyone take money off you!!). If blowing from the N, moorings on the island side would be OK but check depth over there.
South Deep in the Swale, very nice indeed, some moorings there OK for a night but check depth.

South Deep nice, but can be tricky entering the channel at HW from the east cardinal, seems to get shallow to port and starboard ! Easier at half tide. I anchored just north of No. 2 port buoy, at HW in about 5metres, I draw 1.2. was touching the mud the next day on a slight tilt, but not too bad, and soon righted. Visit Conyer for the night...HW entry , too early and apart from touching the buoys may not be at their full rise and the channel can be difficult to follow. If it's daytime they might come out and lead you in.

Do you wish to stay afloat, or is dryng out an option?

If possible we would like to stay afloat. Thanks for the info so far.

Deep water gets close to the S shore the further you go in.

Yep I can see that from the chart, just tricky the first bit past the cardinal, at HW. I can get out the other side OK, not the butterfly channel but heading across to No. 8, but have never tried that heading in. It was pitch black the last time I tried South Deep.
