It had to happen! A ships Captain called up Medway VTS this morning saying that his instruments told him that he was at the Medway Bouy, but .........where was the chimney that he could usually see?

As the office is now oop North somewhere,suprised they able able to give him a sensible answer !

I didn't think they had moved yet. It was the same voices 2 weeks ago with the occasional first name included in responses.

I'd not heard this. Are you saying they are going to man Medway VTS in Liverpool? Won't there even be anyone looking out of the window at Sheerness??

Am familiar with the patient,reassuring and measured voices which usually dispence words of wisdom out of my loudspeaker from Medway VTS, however there was a different note in a younger voice on the Wednesday the chimney came down, best described as " with notes of irritation and exasperation" while attempting to explain something to somebody who probably knew the river far better than he did.
Perhaps it was just me.

I'm not sure there is a lot of 'We' in this decision, It appears to be a commercial decision made by Peel Ports.....

Yesterday (Sunday) several calls to VTS ended with "thanks Jane." I doubt that the pilots or regular visitors to the river would have got that familiar with personnel based in Liverpool if the operations had already moved.

Maybe there is a trial starting with some calls being pushed through to Liverpool during the week.
