Off to Ipswich err no...Just looked at weather forecast.
H,mm what about London then..nope all marinas full, but what about Chelsea.Worth a ring.....Can accomodate you on outside pontoons. No thanks, have been outside when the Thames Navy all escape from the marinas return upstream and go full throttle back to base.
Blimey Got to go somewhere.Fuel tank is full and the crew are rareing to go.
So its off to Swale Marina at Conyer again.
Its Neaps, so no short cut across the mud but a two mile run almost down to Faversham for the so called deep water route.
The "Deep Water" route.

The way in and out

A choice of directions on the way out

The one on the port side is called the butterfly.

Train to Faversham.
The old lock gates are gone, presumably for refurbishment. Speaking to Dick Holness of "East Coast Pilot" fame, who was moored nearbye, the money has been aquired to replace the long derelict old bridge, which prevented access to the upper non tidal pool beyond.
Should be brilliant destination for those adventurous enough to attempt Faversham Creek.
Swale Marine has great little clubhouse and provided us with a decent fish and chip supper on our arrival.
Interesting collection of animals on the cruise as usual, three dogs and a tortoise.
We normally have a pussy cat as well but he went elsewhere.

Murv arrives at Conyer in his splendid new boat now being used as it should be.
The Skipper is on the foredeck directing operations as usual. :)
Nice collection of fenders on display as well.

6AM.Monday. Forecast F5 -7 at Garrision point and it nearly was a trip home by train.
Off we went anyway and fairly comfortable trip home no casualties apart from the odd telly and few glasses.

Cracking pictures Fred, thanks for posting :)
We also went down to Fowley spit after arriving way too early at #8 bouy.
The fender arrangement was to try and cater for all the different boats we had to pinball off on the way in to that berth!
What you couldn't see was my heartrate peaking at around 200bpm as the realisation dawned that I really did have to squeeze in through those gaps with three, 90 degree turns...
Luckily, it somehow came together and the reassuring sight of Fred appeared in the berth securing our lines, and we were in.

I completely wimped out of the departure on Monday in that stiff wind.
Once again, Fred to the rescue who got us out of the berth and onto a finger pontoon that was at least pointing in the right direction.

A great weekend in good company :)

.....and you made it under the old Sheppey Bridge as well.
Bit of pain having to wait for that bridge to lift sometimes.
Couple of the the withies in the Butterfly have fallen inwards to barely a boat width, did wonder if we were going to get through.
When we came down on Friday nobody seemed very keen to be "first" in.
I eventually decided to follow a yacht who obviously knew the area,he ran aground on the way in,at least we now knew where the channel wasnt, and motored past.

Checked on the IOSSC website this morning,a gust of 40 knots was recorded.
Shame about you being well thrashed in the "Long Reach Sprint" by Garys old Sedan 32 tho innit ! :):):)
We were watching through the binos.

:D

We had a look at the butterfly channel on Saturday evening, very confusing that some of the stbd markers have disappeared, it looks for all the World as if you have to pass on the outside near the sea wall but that will just lead you straight over the mud.
Quite fascinating to see the carnage on the mud flats as well, tracks and scrapes absolutely everywhere!

We were reigning Gary in quite nicely, but the stbd engine crept up above 100 so, annoyingly, we had to wind it back.
Next time, next time...
