Medway Barge Race (2021) video

Thank you RivalRedwing for posting this Video of the Medway Barge Match l lots of great shots bringing out the atmosphere aboard one of the Barges competing ; all much appreciated by self

Thank you

I thought those barges were operated by a man, a boy and a dog! Looked to me like there were a lot more than that aboard :)

You might well be right , but guess thats when its on a Trading sail , you know , costs at a minimum , probably eat what one caught on the trip , live on board untill the Jobs done , work all hours , and cripes them claim that Minimum Hours contracts are a new thing ?

Humm ,yes very interesting and informative video , for shure ; noted that there appeared to be NO yachting clothing or footware on board the Barge , more a working person just off the roadworks , Road Boots etc etc , no apparent Life Jackets either , suppose its how it used to be in them Working under Sail days ?

Thanks again

Old Gaffers seem to follow the idea too. I faced a potential hanging for calling a Bawley a Smack. They finally settled on me doing the decent thing by walking backwards for a mile into the Southend foreshore when the tide was out.

WoW Mr LONG KEELER you certainly have trodden the long n dangerous path in your time ; them Old Fisherman of Essex Rvers certainly do not take fools lightly , them are a wierd collection of Boating /Fishing folk ; might just mention , that I guess them Old Folk liked you , somehow , otherwise them might have assisted /insisted you walking that mile when the Tide was IN

Think that you must be blessed to have survived for so long in them there Essex waters ; tis not many that have survived them , with the Natural (insects , snakes , wild man eating fish etc) plus Unnateral folk , far too much inbreeding I recon
