We have been in the Med now for about 13 years.
The weather is usually really good but there are exceptions and sometimes the weather can be really extreme.
Sometimes we get extreme rain which washes down the roads.
This is an example from earlier this year - pic taken whilst we were alongside our boatyard.
The boatyard has proper drains to stop water from the yard getting into the marina but in this pic the rain was too heavy for the drains:-

But last night there was a huge storm over Sant Carles.
This is the usual view from JW's flybridge camera.

Last night there was a massive lightening storm - here are a couple of videos taken by that camera.

Impressive - or what???

A few of the old boys said this year has been the worst they can remember

But yeah it can get wild, I remember Marina Ibiza a few years ago walking back from the nearby supermarket, with the shopping trolleys as all traffic had stopped in torrential rain / no taxis. The water on the streets was about my knee high, I've never seen anything like it. Proper flash flood, a lovely brown colour so you couldn't see what you were walking on either.

There was a huge storm in 2018 along the Ligurian coast, wave buoy registered 8m and over 100 knot gusts were recorded at Albisola.

Would that have been mid August 2017?

There has been a lot of unseasonal rain in June/July in the Costa Blanca this year. Everywhere is unusually very green and lush. August weather has been a bit odd - usually its 30 - 32 degs blue skies every day. This year 37 degs, strong winds and a bit of rain (just after the car/boat has been washed). September/October brings the Gota Fria (a cold drop! - subtle understatement) massive rain storms. A few years ago we had a tornado come up the road. This year should be interesting.

Exactly! Weather had actually been very good up until then.

We dropped the lines around midday and ran to Mahon to wait for the weather to get to Alghero. I remember it well as it was one of about 3 times I drove from the downstairs helm (in 5 years, on a Sunseeker 28m Yacht), dodging thunderstorms on the radar

I remember that storm as well. We were on a buoy in Espalmador with the forecast predicting 40 knots plus from the east. The decision was to stay put or run for cover. Getting into an Ibiza marina in August is a non starter but we did think a buoy in San Antonio might be an option as they had been indicating availability all week. But when it came to the crunch they said "no motorboats on the buoys". I will never go to San Antonio ever again unless I have to. So we hid in Poroig. Anchor out in the middle and two strong lines ashore. Boy did it blow. Over 50 knots with extreme rain and lightning. The following morning all the beach restaurants were either closed or washed away. SWMBO and I took the tender the next morning to one of the restaurants and we were told to "watch out for the cars that had been washed into the bay".
The next day, we went for a swim to find that we only had a foot or so of water under us. But the next few days in Poroig was really nice.

This is where we ended up in Poroig. This vdeo was taken a couple of days later.

EDIT
I've just found a video that I took during the storm. Remembered, we were sheltered. I can't imagine what it was like at sea.

A friend of mine is in Croatia currently. Chartered an 8m rib for a few days. Yesterday…he was out running a storm from Hvar back to Split.

He did 40 knots the whole way….well…..you would with this behind you!???

same weather came here later on in the afternoon, flash flood, crazy northerlies for 20mins, not more. some rental stern-to moored yachts lousy left by punters crushed to the concrete dock, nothing sunk but half a dozen with gelcoat damage.
I was working at home oblivious of the weather turning into this, realised it when it was in full belt and remembered that I'd left one salon side window open in the morning. Rushed to the boat with the car (500metres) and walking the 50m of the pontoon and back was soaking wet, shoes dried the day after...
