It is half term here in the UK and if I had a boat in the Med I would be on it now with the family. So may I ask our Med based members to report on the weather there right now and any suggestions for what might I be doing today instead of sitting at my desk looking at a grey sky?

Good question. Thanks to having school age kids we always used to boat during October half term ourselves for about 10yrs. The answer is that you can't be sure about the weather at this time of year in the Med. We've had everything from a week of 30deg+ temps in Majorca to English type rain/sun in SoF to torrential rain in Croatia at this time of year. The only things you can say with a degree of certainty is that the weather is probably going to be better than the UK and the further south you go in the Med, the more likely that is

Just spent the weekend on the boat ... Saturday 22 degrees partly cloudy, Sunday 24 degrees, hot and sunny .... memsahib sunbathing in her bikini. Today (Tues) at home in the mountains, bit gloomy but forecast sunny and 22 - 24 rest of the week. Going to Agde Boat Show on Thursday and weather looks fine for that .... all ok given that it's the end of October!

As Mike F - had one in Mallorca that was a bit sunny then rain, then two on the trot that were heat waves. I not look at the forecast and make a plan. I went to Egypt this year ! Mallorca was 22 degrees I think. Last year it was 30 +

Been in mallorca since Friday, weather has been fairly typical for the time of year. Friday was sunny. Saturday cloudy,Sunday cloudy.today mostly sunny. The rest of the week looks mostly sunny, but were flying back to the UK tonight.

Temperatures are 15 deg at night 22-23 deg in the day

Im posting this from the boat floating in an empty portals vells bay.

I've been in SC for most of Oct
When the sun is out, it is hot - when it isn't it is starting to get cold.
Had a good day out in the lagoon last Friday.

That said, it has all been different this year.
The yachtie lot that usually stay over in the islands until the end of October were all back a month early this year.

SofF has been overcast and 20-20 degrees since Saturday. Storms tomorrow and then clearing up. Winds to F5 easterly. Dropping out as the week ends.

Hi, was lovely here in Gozo yesterday, sunny with flat blue sea and wind F2/3. Today very early morning we had some showers, but now the sun is out again. Wind up to F3/4 but sea still slight. Air temp only low 20's but the sea is still 24c.
Best of all hardly any other boats around, so you can choose your perfect spot!
John

Sani (Thessaloniki) was warm and sunny until last Thursday then we got soaked for 3 days and chilly. Warmish (21 degrees) and sunny again this week. Of course I'm now back in the UK to a sunny (really) Lake District at work.

Sat on my boat in SoF now it's raining ( was forecast started at 5pm )
Has been windy Yesterday ,but warm 20 c
We,ve been doing end of season jobs prepping for closed season .
Previous years been hotter and sunny .
We off home early Thursday Am -it's set to get real warm high pressure .
Topped up the tanks + additive -fitted winter cover etc

SoF was lovely Fri-Sun, very light winds, sunshine, and pleasantly warm. Windy yesterday and today, and started raining this evening as we left for the airport. A few jellyfish around, having been mostly absent all year.

More importantly John, where are you based in Gozo and is that a Maltese Terrier?

Thanks for the replies chaps!

I figured that the med at october half term is much like the UK in summer and that seems to be about right from what you have said. OK, the UK summer can get better than 20C-22C but not very often.

Just spent the day at the Autumn Boat Show at Cap d'Agde .... beautiful sunny day about 25 degrees - November in a couple of days. I'm not in the market for a boat as I've just bought one but if you wanted a bargain you'd have been spoiled for choice! ... 100s of them!

Just got back from an afternoon sailing with a yachtie friend in the sun on the lagoon outside the marina.
Max speed of 6.2 knots!!
Quiet and peaceful - SWMBO helmed whilst I put my feet up and dozed off.
All in T shirts and shorts.
Not an oilskin in sight.
