Med boaters - will you get to your boat this year?

Not “forever more “ until most of the Eu and wider world has got to grips with sone semblance of a vaccination program.
Next medium term for sure , and anyhow think flue vaccination for over 55 s etc , it’s no biggie .
Yes they do kinda” to some degree “ work but as I said earlier 87 %AZ and 94 % Pfizer effectiveness is enough for 1-1-7B , but it’s yet to be determined how effective, say 60, 50 40 % against the variants we know .
We are about in the next 6/8 weeks gonna find out by looking at the EU situation.

Obviously as I said with robust surveillance the plan is spot / detect further new variants and adapt the viral vector AZ / Moderna .Which the U.K. has by now sufficient domestic supply or will have very soon .

Agree. The idea that the vaccination program is a silver bullet and we can all get back to normality after 2/3rds or whatever of the population has been vaccinated is far too optimistic. As you say the scientists dont actually know for sure what the vaccine efficacy is going to be in the real population (as opposed to clinical trials), they dont know what the efficacy is going to be against future unknown variants and they dont know how transmissible vaccinated people are in terms of carrying the virus and transmitting it to unvaccinated people (although early signs are encouraging on that)

As you say this is going to be a long haul involving continuing test/trace and isolate, further local lockdowns, vigilance against further variants and regular booster vaccine jabs. My guess is that we will get to see our boats in the Med this summer but we should expect sudden changes to travel and quarantine regulations which may at best inconvenience us or at worst cancel our plans

I’d still drive down

I have got this vision of med boaters meeting migrants in ribs arriving from France, and getting in the ribs and heading back to. France

Booked my lift out for 6 June, I’ve now got a good reason to go even if holiday travel isn’t open but looks like I’ll be missing Monaco GP !

We plan to. With stories of 6hr queues at Heathrow happening even now before the holiday rush and arriving Brits getting treated like illegal African migrants at Nice airport, a leisurely drive through France sounds a lot more appealing
We always drive in the summer, but if we're allowed to go in May / June we'll cancel our plane tickets and drive down. I don't fancy camping at LHR

had my boat lift last week. All servicing done. Williams minijet upgrade to follow.

flying to Mallorca I think should be fine, although will be slower than normal. The french meanwhile are really screwing everything up! Wouldn’t want to fly there, hopefully driving will be fine.

The evidence from last year would suggest that the defining factor for cases over the summer will be the sunshine rather than vaccinations ie France is likely to have low cases as summer takes hold. We are told chance of catching outdoors is minimal - not zero - which would support this. The issue of vaccinations is going to be relevant for the Autumn in my view. Low vax countries will likely see another outbreak, but then again I suspect we will see CV back everywhere and hopefully this time we will learn to live with it somewhat better. The biggest deterring factor is how much the government wants to penalize you for travelling. I have a critical 3 day business trip to Europe tomorrow and i will have 5 corona tests in circa 16 days!! Don’t even ask what the cost is! At least I will know if i have Covid at the end of it!! Ps the amount of form filling is eye watering.

I won’t be flying, too many things to take down with me, boat yards must be very busy in France, early June was the first slot available.

I was Pfizered. A man in my delicate condition can’t take any chances

You really have gone native havent you? Next you'll be telling us youre now a PSG fan instead of a Spurs fan:rolleyes:
