Hi , the boat we are buying has been in and around Cyprus all its 10 years and i think due to the constant sun ( poor us ) the bodywork needs a spruce up to rekindle the shine.

What is the best way to achieve this without a gel coat renewal , have polished my fair share of cars in my time but is a T cut and polish ok or is the principal different for boats ?

Also what materials are best to use ie. polish etc ...is there such a thing as marine pledge lol

Well its a tough decision, you could put a lot of time and effort into polishing it all. However nobody else will give a stuff so try to strike a happy medium. I find its best just to do the transom and edges of the bathing platform and ignore the rest. After all you cant see how shiny it is when you are driving it.
However if the urge becomes irresistable 3M do a range of restoration cut and polish products that even I managed to get a half decent shine on the stern (my boat in Spain had not been polished for 12 years- I think thats more than enough ?)

He explains it all.
For a badly oxidised boat you sand it, course polish, fine polish then wax. This is essentially your Tcut and wax on a grand scale. The smoother you get it before you wax the longer it will last. And don’t think about doing it by hand.

We bought a sportcruiser that had been in the med for most of its life and the hull was fairly dull when we got her. Personally I like my boat to look good and shine. I used a compound and polish called Aquabuff 3000 with a variable speed polisher. It took a while but the shine has come back to the gelcoat and she's looking good. I think a good quality compound and polish and wax should bring the shine back.
