Measuring propshaft taper

I presume it is length or taper divided by reduction in diameter, but thought I would check with the collected wisdom first.

As a cross-check, if the shaft diameter is in imperial measure, eg 1", then the taper is most likely 1:12. If it's metric, eg 25mm then it's most likely 1:10.
Yes, tapers are measured over the diameter, NOT radius.
