I was told by Shamrock MDL that if I introduced a friend to moor with them I would get £250/300 worth of vouchers that could be used against yard services or berthing fees. Its been about 3 weeks since my friend took up his mooring so I rang MDL to enquire about the vouchers.First was told not only would I get the reward but so would my friend, fantastic I thought, they even ask how I would like to have the vouchers.A few minutes later I received a phone call telling me I was not eligable but the friend I had introduced was.I queried it and they said if I was a new customer I would be.Great, I have paid them nearly £12.000.00 over the last two years. Is it the usual'New customers only' routine.
Good incentive not.Don't think I will bother in future. Are we valued customers I think not.
What does the panel think?

so just to understand this, the person recommending the new customer to MDL has to be themselves a new customer.... sounds like a chicken and egg situation...!!??

my opinion, for what its worth, that is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS

I have been considering a move to MDL, and the introduce a friend payment could be useful. I wonder how long it is before a new customer becomes ineligible. A week? A month? I've looked at the promotional info they sent me and there is nothing about a deadline for introducing friends to qualify for rewards.

Sounds to me like the person you were speaking to didn't have a clue. I'd try ringing back and ask to speak to someone more senior, or ring MDL head office, if they have one.

Agreed, I find it helps to park on the fuel berth while negotiating too ;)

Don't get too irate - at first, at least. I've always found MDL to be a very good company to deal with - as others have suggested, I suspect that it is confusion on the part of the person you are dealing with. I must say that the description of the scheme is a bit convoluted.

I believe freedom berthing is causing headaches too
In fact, I had to go to CIs and Brittany as MDL couldnt find me a berth westwards at all. Fantastic perk. Maybe they will pay me my French berthing costs?

Premier have a similar scheme, the only restriction is the newcomer's boat has to be over a certain size (8m I think). No rule that the referrer has also to be a newcomer, that would be barmy!

Hmmm, in fairness I don't think you can criticise them for being oversubscribed. Do you want them to deliver a worse service so that the marina will be half empty and you can stop by without notice?

Suspect it's more to do with the carp weather, no one's going anywhere so no free space.

Nick, you mus have spoken to the wrong man or woman, speak to Nichola Walsh she is the overall manager of shamrock and Saxon wharf, if you get no joy ring outlook house at hamble point and read to them what they said in print which should be legally binding, if you have adhered to that then there in the wrong.

I'm not sure if you do exactly qualify as you were only away from shamrock for 3 months.

What I will say is I'm surprised they want to pi55 you off or anyone as the place is empty, I'd have thought in this climate m d l need all the berths filled they can.

As for yard charges there a rip off, you only have to shop around at other yards, use the sea lift etc.

I used to be there wasn't impressed.

Technically you are a new customer, didn't you move to the hamble for a few months and then come back recently :D

Although I find MDL okay and they have been quite good to me in the past, I do find MDL promotions a little drawn out.

Well Haslar don't mess about.

I have enjoyed two £500 introductions now, the people berthing also got £500 off as well. No questions, no hassle, no wriggling.

Henry :)

I have been an MDL customer since 2009
Introduced a friend this year to Shamrock, we both received our £300 no problems

Speak to Jonathan Walcroft Manager of Shamrock and Saxon wharf. he is based at Shamrock

I couldnt even book a single night stop. For weeks. I dont think people are moving their boats to Torbay for the service.
No, I know what you are saying, and I know there cannot always be room for everyone, and I guess it was the wrong week to be asking.
Mind you in going to France instead, it has made us think maybe its time to move, so maybe it isnt such a great business idea if too many people end up feeling the same!
Plenty of room at Cobbs,100s of berths, but then it took 30 minutes to get someone to answer the phone or VHF, though every time I go there it is the same story.
