Congratulation, it´s a great quote.

I have a 15 years old MD 22A in my boat, a VP replacement for the heatexchanger is incl. VAT € 4.797,09 (861581), on top of that comes the inset with 2.063,61 incl. VAT, plus freight, so it will be more than € 7.100 !!!

I contacted Beta-Marine for a complete Beta 50 incl. instruments but without gearbox, incl. freight to the Canaries. The spanish Beta dealer´s price is € 6.800 taxfree Las Palmas, incl. gearbox ZF 25 it would cost me € 8.400My heatexchanger works still fine, but I know what to do when bigger replacements will become necessary.

Why do people still order VolvoPenta, Perkins made in Japan engines ?

Well as it's not a Perkins engine, we don't.
Most of us have worked out it's a Peugeot engine (the Indenor XDP4.9) and get our parts from the local Motor Factors/Halfords instead. Perkins engines weren't made in Japan and I'm reliably informed that Perkins cancelled their contract with V.P. ASAP as they buggered around with the engine too much.

Know it is an old post, but just to correct it in case somebody reads this - all modern small Volvo engines (1990s on) are indeed Perkins base engines, mostly built in Japan, but some (such as MD 22) in UK.

So your "reliable" informant is wrong.

My MD21B is a Peugeot 2.1 normally aspirated diesel Marinised by Volvo circa 1980.it is the engine fitted to Peugeot 504 2.1 trucks and cars. Having at one stage fitted a new head the Peugeot 504 2.1 was the only one to fit. Part nos of other spares refer to indenor XDP4/90. So Ariadne was not wrong in his statement.

Afraid he is wrong. He was responding to a suggestion that people still fit Volvo/Perkins engines, and stating that Volvo have "cancelled their contract with Perkins". This is simply not true all the yacht auxilliary engines up to 55 hp have been Perkins since the 1990s. While your engine has a Peugeot base, Volvo has not used such base engines for over 30 years!

So his information is wrong and out of date.

Your MD32a is also a Peugeot engine . It is based on the Indenor XDP 6/90 106HP. Reference document Publ No 2769 B Dec 1975 workshop manual

Cheapest source for head gasket then for an MD21B please ? clearly not VP at £360!!!!

Just picked a new (very old) stock FAI HG227 of ebay for a couple of quid. Allegedly it will fit the 2.1 Peugeot of this vintage... If not then I'll need to find one elsewhere so I'm all ears!

I am trying to obtain a replacement exhaust manifold for my ancient md21b volvo engine. is there anyone out there who knows of a possible source !! I can then continue my summer cruise.
Ludd, Tom, of this parish, has one sitting outside his boat in Bruces Yard in Faro, complete, for sale.

Many thanks.........venerable and much loved..........

If it's still running I suspect that it is a yacht auxiliary and governed down to 3000rpm and even then not worked too hard
Keep it till you need to spend any real money and then replace it .
