Mcgregor 19 Powersailer

I'm a novice and considering trying to find a Mcgregor 19 Powersailer, as it would seem perfect for my needs. Has anyone had any experience sailing one? I can't seem to find any objective reviews.

MacGs are like a red rag to the forum bull. Mainly because they are a compromise that checks few boxes except that of being a compromise.

As a general rule, yes - but probably acceptable when raising a query about a Macgregor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Allegedly they slam badly at speed under power.
As others have said/hinted they are an inefficient sailingboat and a flawed powerboat.
These comments are not made from my experience but my recollection of what has been said in past posts.

You clearly did - would love to get out more but work gets in the way, Still, will head down to my boat tomorrow and will get away for the weekend - will have the mobile broadband so can watch this thread develope with interest. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Take it from someone that's helped to move one some considerable distance (despite the fact that I obviously need to get out more) they most definately do slam very badly when going through choppy water. It felt like the hull was about to be ripped open and was an extremely uncomfortable trip. I have the return journey to do in a few weeks, probably when the weather has turned, which I'm not much looking forward to but I'm happy to help out when a mate needs it.
 
It might seem all a bit unfair, Oh! Welcome to the forum. The forum will provide you with honest answers, sometimes in a very blunt way! MacG's are probably one of the least respected boats afloat. They are as you will know American and probably very much at home on a lake.

Why not start a new post, tell us what you want from a boat and you will find lots of help and useful suggestions, probably so many suggestions you wont know where to start.

Good luck, and don't give up on the forum, there are some good guys (and girls) on here, it can become addictive, be warned!
 
Thanks Steven, I thought I asked a reasonable question, but some of the responses were not. My limited experience of sailing and forums so far has been one of helpfulness and support...... until now. I'll try your suggestion, Thanks again Colin
