Mca carving and marking?

I have to get the carving and marking completed on my boat for the the Mca registration and haven't the foggiest who to approach to get this done, anybody had this done before who can advise me?

I assume you are talking Part 1 "Blue Book"

Have a chat with the registrar who should be able to advise you of the requirements, our local registrar as the boat had already had the carving done allowed me to Glue and screw a plate over the old mark, The sign writing on the transom is straight forward provided you use the correct size of letters.

If it's just the marking sign then I used Alan at essltd.co.uk they know what they're doing. No relation!

Did you have to get the carving and marking note signed, dated and stamped by a recognised surveyor? If so, I assume they had to attend the vessel (which in my case isn't going to be easy as the boat is in Spain)?

Also, is there any alternative to sending original Bills of Sale, etc to the register?

I seem to recall reading (in MBY I think) that the MCA had gone all modern and you could do it electronically now (so presumably by scanning and emailing).

Ari, my recollection was the same but there's no evidence of that on the ukshipregister.co.uk website. At least I didn't dream it! I'll speak to them in the morning.

Petem for pleasure vessel p1 reg you self certify the carve and mark. Only for a commercially reg part 1 vessel e.g. Charter boat do you need a surveyor

The carve mark plate can be made by an engraver or similar. I used a router in a piece of plastic plywood and make my own. Pretty easy. You could maybe use a dremel, or just chain drill it

I hope everyone is sitting down when you read this, but you can actually submit your application and papers vie email / scanned copies. It's no longer necessary to send in originals. Emailed all my papers yesterday so look forward to a new "Andiamo F" thread .
