...and rather than a "thud" on my hall carpet, it kinda fluttered to the ground....

Is this part of the "cuts" on the news every night?

I posted on this last month, still no improvement, looked at a boat report of sealine sc38 in a 2007 mag, it was twice as thick!

Thread drift here but was also looking at second hand asking prices of 2 years ago compared to todays, wow what a shocker glad I didnt buy nearly new then.

Typical price of a used sealine 41 on drives was around 165k, you can buy one now for around the 125k mark, scary I know.

SWIMBO picked it up yesterday off the table, and after 20 seconds said.. but there isnt anything in here...
Well, not quite true..interesting on the 5hp outboards, even if I dont need one.

I very nearly threw mine in the bin, I thought it was a junk flyer , I was shocked when I opened it to realize it was a magazine, Berthon Marina send me a free magazine which is more substantial.

I didnt really look at second hand boat values but a Princess 360 caught my eye @ £129 000, it seemed an increase from a year ago .

Not surprised who would want to buy one of those!!!& i don't mean the magazine,mm1.

Yes, got mine yesterday, and it is a thinner tome than usual. Have not had a chance to peruse yet, so not sure if it lack of adverts, fewer articles, shorter articles, thinner paper, or any combination of the above. Would be good to get a comment from an MBM staffer?

OK, head above parapet and tin hat time:

Yes the 'cuts' are mostly in advertising, something which is affecting all magazines AFAIK. Nov 10 issue has 88 editorial pages, the Jul 07 issue mentioned in post no 2, has 92 editorial pages. So yes there are 4 less editorial pages in this issue, but there are around 44 pages less of adverts!

Neale,

Many thanks. I for one do not mind fewer adverts, but clearly this will impact your revenues, and could thereby impact on the quality of the mag. I have to say I really enjoy MBM. Good balance of interesting, informative, affordable, and aspirational. However, if the quality is impacted, then I will be disappointed.

I also read a couple of car and motorsport mags, as well as professional journals. MBM is the one I look forward to most.

Please will you refrain from introducing facts Neale, it spoils a good rant,

you know back in July 07 we were screaming outrage at being ripped off for buying MBM that was made up of 30% adverts, and demanding a reduced cover price.

Now we expect a reduced cover price for a thinner magazine :D

After 20 plus years of reading MBM and having on subscription for a atleast 8 years, last month i cancelled direct debit.
Although i have enjoyed many of the articles ive just got bored with MBM and i agree with others, the content seems to be reducing and magazine getting thinner :-(
Im now going to flick through the pages in a local newsagent and buy when something catches my eye.

You have just graduated to the "Tightwad Team"

Well done!!

Where's the next Team Meeting held !

But realisticly perhaps now is the time for MBM to have a facelift and take on a new look as this is not the first time MBM's content or lack of has been brought up on the forum.

It used to be at the Swan at Falmer in my younger days. Are you really a Sussex person? XR3i's conjur up the Dagenham Dustbin/Essex boy vision.

Agreed that MBM needs to consider how to maintian circulation and/or grow. With reduced revenues from advertising, there is a danger of a vicious spiral, reduced circ/revenues/interest/circ/oblivion. A facelift might be the right way.

I don't really like MBY, as it's focus is really too aspirational for me. A Sealine SC35 is a definite possibility, a custom £x mega, I'm afraid not.

"Are you really a Sussex person? XR3i's conjur up the Dagenham Dustbin/Essex boy vision"...... cheek!!! Sussex born and bred !

You know how it is when your prompted for a user name and not sure what to use and think change at a later stage and havent, although did have an xr3i convertible at the time.

I may have ditched the subscription but do view and use this forum, there's always lots of information to view, cruising news, hints, tips and info and occasionally post / reply, but just feel that MBM isnt the magaziine it was.
MBY is usually an occational read or holiday magazine, perhaps our comments will be noted! :-)

I also get Boating from the US. Subscribed via Zinio paying £5 for 10 issues on my iPad.Great value - especially when, much to my surprise,a hard copy of the magazine also landed on my doormat. Shame publishers in the UK continue to charge so much.

On a trip down to the boat this year I stopped off a fleet services for a poo and was hand selecting my favourite pick and mix afterwards when my eyes caught a bumper deal on Motorboat Monthly and Motor Boat and Yachting. Both in the same bag for a few quid. I immediately returned the aforementioned sweets back into their hoppers and treated myself.

A good read and a good deal.

Henry :)

Great, well I look forward to joining you for a pint of Harvey's at some time. My folks live outside of Brighton, and they allow me back now and again,.....................mainly to fix things or pay for them..................
