Great article guys and a very interesting boat for me.

The one piece of info missing for me was the AIR DRAFT of the boat?

If I were to use it on Inland Waters - which it is begging to be with Eleccie motor Hybrid, I need to know that it will fit!

Yes looked very interesting especialy for mixed Thames and Sea use, starting price looked incredible value at only £93K for a well fitted out 33footer.

9ft.

Read it in another mag and ordered a brochure from Greenline. Got that and the price list. Lets just say it isnt as cheap as it sounds once you have added essentials like hot water and mooring cleats!!!!!

Very interesting example, but I'd want to see how the solar elements fared in a typical UK scenario of passable sunshine now and again. It just came across as a Med/Carib option rather than in our environment. After that you have a good hull.

I'd like this sort of thing to work, I really would, but I remain cautious.

I too am interested in this boat and have been for some time.

I think it is excellent value, and yes you have to spec hot water but it does come with cleats!!!!

Standard engine with the Comfort Package (hot water, fridge, deck shower and extra battery) and Anchor Package (Anchor Winch, Anchor & Chain, Spring Cleats and Sidepower Thruster) still comes in at just under £96k inc VAT.

The real additional cost is the bigger engine (which for coastal use is essential) at £10,500 inc VAT and the hybrid system. For me this is both the real attraction and the major sticking point.

The hybrid system costs £23,000 inc VAT and the Solar Panels on the roof which give the potential for 'Solar Sailing' as well as 240v at anchor and away from marinas is another £8,250 - making the whole full Hybrid option a steep £31,000!!!

You can have a very decent, nicely made and seemingly very fuel efficient with a good turn of speed (13-15knts depending on which review you read) for under £110k on the water. Look at what the dutch will charge you for a Linssen or similar and its stonking value.

Even if you add the full hybrid system, teak decks and leccy bogs and you are still only looking at £150k ish which really is very competitive for the technology in the boat.

There are two things weighing on my mind however. The first is I think they ahve missed a trick by omitting the second guest cabin. Most 33ft boats have one, and while there is the extra sapce taken up by the battery banks I would have thought the small single engine would have compensated for this. The second it the actual consumption figures. If you read the MBM and MB&Y articles the figures vary quite a lot (by like 30%). The MBM figures are very close to the manufacturers claims and I wonder if they actually tested them at all. The MB&Y figures are much worse and were definitly tested but on a prototype/hull 1 boat which may not be fully finessed. 7knts seems to give 7-9mpg in neutral seas, and 13-15knts no better than a planing sports boat. Its the 10 knot range which appeals to me. If it is 4mpg ish then I think its a good compromise.

Anyway, demo is booked with Salterns when their boat turns up and I will be taking great interest in the figures derived from that. If there is interest I will take pics and post my own little review after that if anyone wants to read it.

Prices in this have been taken from the German price list provided by Allert Marine at Dusseldorf this year. I have based the exchange rate on 1.16 and deducted german IVA at 19% and added UK VAT at 17.5%.

A very significant boat. The first proper use of hybrid technology - far better than those awfull Prius things. The other thing that is interesting is the hull form; the videos I have seen show hardly any wash at slow speed, it must be a very slippery profile. Watch while other manufacturers try and catch up. Please post on here when you have had your test runs!!

Maybe as an inland waterways cruiser, there is a market but as a coastal cruiser, I don't get it. At anything above displacement speed, the boat is going to be using the diesel engine 100% of the time and not very efficiently at that. I can't remember the exact figures from the MBM test but 2mpg at about 13kts is nothing to brag about for a 33 footer. So the only potential fuel saving is to be made when pootling between the marina and the sea when the electric motor can be used but, at slow speeds, a diesel engine only sips fuel so any savings will be marginal. Similarly, the use of solar power to recharge the batteries in place of a generator will only lead to small fuel savings as well. I guess there won't be a flybridge version!
IMHO, hybrid power in boats is a bit of a technological dead end just like as in cars. The reality is that something like the Toyota Pious is no more economical than a diesel hatchback and I think it will be the same with boats. Surely, the extra weight of the hybrid components in a boat will go some way to offsetting any fuel saving as well. I can't help feeling that hybrid power is more of a marketing concept designed to attract those punters who feel guilty about their motoring and boating pleasures than a major technological breakthrough that will save the planet

I'd agree in general about the Hybrid option, but it is actualy a very good boat full stop with a good layout and fitout for the price, similar Brit and dutch stuff are maybe £50K more. You must be looking at a different boat.

The spec we were sent on monday had bugger all on the standard 80k diesel only boat. We where genuinley interested until we specced it up to our desired spec and came out at 120k + VAT and then we would have to add further equipment to meet our requirements as they couldnt add some of the items we want.

I think one of us must be confused somewhere then. If you let me have your email address I can send you the price list I have from Allert. I cant post it here as the file is too big.

What options did you consider mandatory? I only ask because I thought completly the opposit to you in that I thought the basic spec was no worse than the dutch semi-d stuff for example, and the option packs were well priced. Well, except for the elctronics packages but thats the sam foir just about every builder and I would never spec factory nav as you get better kit for less money doing it yourself.

Yes, I quite agree that they would be essential for me as well. Would you prefer they included them and upped the price by £4k?

I think full teak is optional on most (if not all?) boats, and I have already mentioned the nav gear. Still, I think with all of the above for £140k inc VAT is a good deal. Go look at the price of a similar Linssen, or Pedro or even a Westwood and it compares very favourably.

Mind you, we all have different ideas of value I suppose. For example, I wouldnt have the covers (cant see the need), I wouldnt have the hot air heating (cant stand it, would go for a self fit wet system) and cant see the point of the opening centre screen. So I for one am glad they are option because I wouldnt want to pay for them.

Just worked it out, your spec £118,585 inc VAT from Allert.

Unless you wanted the Hybrid option as well?

Hmm

The spec looks Similar (I too have the Salterns prices). I undertand there is a value to buying locally, and if we decide to go through with a purchase I will give Salterns the opportunity to be competitive. However, i have bought from Allert before and they area good big dealer. I certainly wont pay £10k for the privilege of drinking expensive coffee in poole.

With the Euro in **** this should only get cheaper as well. I wonder how quickly british dealers will pass on the saving? The other boat in contention is a Jeanneau NC11 (£50k more by the way) and the situation is the same there. The Calais dealer is very amenable and only 60 miles away.

I'd agree in general about the Hybrid option, but it is actualy a very good boat full stop with a good layout and fitout for the price, similar Brit and dutch stuff are maybe £50K more. So you can have the Hybrid stuff for free, which would be ideal for inland use or staying away from shore power type locations.

Although I have to admit I would probably never buy the Hybrid opiton as resale is going to be iffy, especialy if the batteries need replacing.

I would have thought the Hybrid option is the selling point? Otherwise I think a single cabin 33 footer has a limited resale market. It does seem a remarkably inexpensive boat given the technology in it and I think it will sell but you have to wonder how Greenline can do it for the money when established manufacturers can't offer their non hybrid 33 footers for anywhere the same price
