Hi

I'm thinking of buying a 2001 maxum 2400scr with a 5.7l mercruiser engine and a bravo 111 outdrive. Does anybody have any experiance with this boat and any advice as what to look out for.

usual, faily obvious stuff- service records on engine and leg, especially when the leg was last serviced. If you arent mechanically minded, at 7-8 years old, it might well be worth getting an engineer to go over them,as much of the value of the boat is at the back! And so would be bills be !
Is it on a trailer? If so, the brakes get eaten by salt water, and its easy to need all moving parts replaced, which could be up to £500 on a twin axle.
It would also be a good idea to go carefully over any canvas, zips etc, check the props are true and not bent.
Fairly popular boat over here, so there s no need to put up with a tired looking one.

Hey Seak,

As with any American boat, check that it has a Declaration of Conformity and CE marked build plate in the cockpit. Loads of these have been imported without being CE marked, no problem doing it but it is worth less if not done.

It also happens to be illegal to sell it and use it in European waters without the DoC

Cheers

Mercruiser risers should be checked/replaced every 5 years, according to the service schedule. You don't see it mentioned in service records very often.....
