maxi 84

I am not an owner, but an ex-owner.
We bought ours, a 1983 vintage, from Island Sailing (later to become Sunsail) out of Croatia in 1990. A brief refit was carried out, all cosmetic really other than an engine rebuild and we then moved her to Greece when the war started.

The boat was great. Simply, but strongly built and an absolute delight to sail. In fact we fitted an Autohelm 2000 but rarely used it because you can easily steer by trimming the main in moderate seas.

The deck layout and accomodation work very well for a boat of its size, I suppose that possibly is why Camper and Nicholson copied it with their Nich 27 and Thames Marine with the Mirage 27. In my opinion neither had the sparkle of the Maxi having sailed all three.

We had 8 years of fun trouble free sailing before SWMBO decided that a 40 footer was needed and who was I to argue? I had so much faith in the boat that I went against my usual rule and sold her to a very close friend in 1998. We are still pals.
A good boat.
