I want a matt/satin pale cream finish paint for the interior of my wooden sloop. Weathershield exterior satin comes in 750ml tin at £11.90 per tin. Blakes only do gloss and at £16 per 750ml.
Weathershield exterior masonry paint comes in 2.5L tins at £20 per tin. It is available in pale cream and by definition has a matt finish. I have painted a piece of pine, sans undercoat, and it did not flake off or bubble up after several months in the rain, wind, sun etc. However, this might have been sheer luck.
After all that the basic question is "has anyone used masonry paint on their boat, and what was the outcome?"
Look forward to hundreds of replies.
Thanks

I have B&Q exterior gloss on a part of my boat, painted over plywood, and it is exposed to the elements.

It has stood up extremely well.

Weathershield Exterior Gloss made by Dulux....

... although quite hard falls down by being brittle and therefore suceptible to cracking after which it allows water in which cannot escape therefore making rot accelerate.

For your application I would use one of the woodsheens or Satinwood colours like Java Cream.

DON'T get the "Quick Dry" variants. They are PVA based and diabolical in the marine environment where an oil based paint is far more durable.

I have decided to use Blakes Deck Coating for exterior work and Weathershield satin cream with varnished accents for the insides.

Thanks for your input.

All the best

Not quite sure about masonry paint, but this query matches one of mine in relation to a Miracle dinghy ( wood) that we own. The marine ply foredeck has lost patches of varnish and the wood has stained quite badly. A previous renovation involving scraping and sanding has reduced the thickness of the wood, so I don't want to take it down further. I was looking at painting with one of the usual marine paints, Blakes or International, but would something like Homebase or B&Q exterior gloss be just as good and cheaper? There is a wider range of colours, but I'm not sure about UV degradation resistance.
