Mast step-Ankle

Agreed, but after you put the mast in an A-frame and walk it up (it’s only a small boat), there are forces in weird directions.

Absolutely ... small or large mast - as it raises or lowers - trick is to stop it swinging side to side ...

Too often you see guy whos job it is to steady the mast as it moves - decides to change position on boat ... boat heels, mast swings to side ...
Guy needs to stay centred and not change position ... his only job is to stop the swing.

I know some advocate a single Gin Pole ... but having used myself and seen so many others fail with it ... I am 101% against. Its not easy to keep that single pole exactly in line and 90 deg to the mast .. any slight difference in guide lines (guys) and that pole is of to one side and BHAM.

Hi All,

Thanks again, for all your comments-I managed to track down a new foot from Z-spars in Suffolk (see images attached) £80 next day delivery-really nice people and next day service.
I've attached a couple of images for anyone looking in the future.
Cheers,
Paul
