I have a couple of small areas where fretting by a strop has worn the anodised surface off my mast. Any one got suggestions as to how to stop the corrosion and re-protect the surface?

I reckon if you want to fix the problem at a realistic price it is time to paint the whole mast. However you could also ignore the problem unless it really worries you. Re anodising is not a realistic option.

If it's just the anodizing that's worn away and no corrosion there at present then paint it quick before the corrosion starts. A ogod metal primer should do, preferrable overcaoted with a good top coat.

I have found that red oxide primer works well.

Thanks. Should I use self etch primer on the patches first or will it "fight with the surrounding anodising?
Anyone any advice?

Jim, You need Aluchrome. Its a phosphating process used extensively in industry for repair of anodising. Go to Adchemkolkata.com for more info. Don't use paint. In a year or so the aluminum will corrode under the paint unless phosphated to stabilise it first....
