Almost portable but with 55HP

The first ever "speedboat" that I rebuilt was indeed nothing more than a tender. At just under 13 feet long and weighing no more than I could lift off its trailor (and indeed I did lift it off its trailor to repaint the hull) it proved to be a spectacular craft (before it suffered GRP delamination that is).

I got this thing fettled up and launched at the river Weaver at Frodsham. I bolted a 55HP Penta on the back - no seats, just a steering wheel and throttle - oh sweet Jesus you should have felt the acceleration!!!

Following running this lunatic small craft down the Dee estuary and out to sea; I then had the balls to launch this underweight craft on Blackrock sands to give it a real run through the surf.... That's where the delamination started. The boat's days were numbered, but happy days were started!

The funny part is that, and this is very much IMHO, cars have gotten to the point where there are no longer giant leaps of improvement on each model generation. The driving experience of the e60 wasn't THAT much better than that of the e39 (almost opposite, I would say). And based on an admittedly short test drive of F10, it wasn't THAT much better than the e60 either.

I've been driving a rental F10 530D for the past few days. I must admit that they have managed to significantly improve what already was a very good car (I have a e61 530d). It is a fantastic machine. I can only imagine how much fun the M5 would be...

On the f10, would the panel care to vote on which wheels one should order? Standard are multispoke 19inch, option is 20inch 5-spoke. Irritatingly you have to have the blue calipers (6 pot). The discs are beautiful things: drilled, vented and floating on radial pins (ie polo mint shaped not hat shaped)

standard look much better, they blend and disappear whereas the 20inch are "loud" and thus ugly. (all imho)

Not to mention that 19" is more than enough even for that car.
Nobody in his right mind would push the thing on the roads anywhere near the point where the lower profile of a 20" tire makes any difference. Whilst it probably does make some difference in terms of (even) lower comfort.

The wheels on the second pic are pretty similar to those on this E60/61. I took this pic at the showroom in Munich a couple of years ago. This M5 was v highly specced and was priced at €119,000.
