Hi - I put some masking tape on the hull in readiness for antifouling but the temperature was too cold to apply so the next day I removed the masking tape so I didnt have a bugger of a job to remove it the following week, however after it only been on less than 24hrs there was a bit of sticky residue.
Does anyone know what product to use to easily remove it from the gel coat ?
Many thanks for any advice
Jon

There is a US product called Goo Gone which is available in the U.K., it’s very good at removing various sticky stuff.
Its amazing how well masking tape can adhere, few years back when we lifted the boat for the Winter, I gave the Hull it’s usual jet wash before the mud set like concrete, come the Spring starting to apply some fresh masking tape for the new anti- foul I found a piece of masking tape from the previous anti-foul application, it had stayed resolutely in place for a full season including a round trip from Aberaeron to La Caruna.

Sticky Stuff Remover.
Is this the product ? - Zep Sticky Stuff Remover 1Ltr

Spend a bit more on the masking tape and get 3M No Residue masking tape. Cheaper than the labour removing the gunk.
Any solvent.

Use blue tape next time.
It was Blue tape that I used- I think it was the temperature over night that caused the slight residue and fortunately its not everywhere.

There is blue tape and then there is 3M and Duck blue tape. Guess how I know.

right as an update - went to the boat last weekend masked off on the Friday and got my first coat of anti foul on a few hours later it rained for a short period.
on the saturday nice and dry conditions the 2nd coat was applied - after 2 hours and touch dry I started to remove the masking tape and it left sticky residue.
I tried bug and tar remover which worked but took some effort - then I decided to give wd-40 a go and it came off really easy with little effort

Blue tape varies make to make. 3M for me.

I've used the wife's nail polish remover for adhesive residue after removing trim lines etc on gelcoat. Also for small areas tried sticking plaster removal small wipes from a chemist.
