Having had not a single interested party in over a year does the panel think I might be better off selling Mariposa's gear separately and burning her?
I'm spending her value every 12 months on storage and mooring fees!

You might want to re-visit your advertising strategy as I can only see her on your site and one other (Boats.com).
Apollo Duck, Boats and Outboards, Boatshed and (god forbid) the dreaded "Bay" are going to increase your ability to find interested parties and the increased costs are going to be minimal compared to carrying on paying to keep her.

The link comes up as 'Forbidden' to me too.

Writing her off sounds terrible, there must be a better way even if giving her to a charity.

However it must be said that it's a very limited design, I sailed one and was astounded how slow she was, and of course maintenance will put a lot of people off - but the real problem is deep water moorings, it would be totally uneconomic to moor her around here ( Solent / Chichester ).

I hope you find a good answer to your quandary.

Where have you advertised her?
She seems to be in good condition and have had plenty of work done on her. For that sort of price she must find a buyer.
Have you had her on Boats and Outboards and Appollo Duck?

The site worked for me BTW
Two things that immediately come to mind about the site is that you don't give dimensions. 2 1/2 ton doesn't mean much to most yachties and you don't actually say where she is lying.
It's not 'til I clicked on the broker that I found an answer.
Is the broker the only form of advertising you are doing?

I suppose most people wanting a Hillyard would start by looking on the Hillyard Owners' Association. Might be worth advertising her on there.

She's a credit to you, especially given your description of her pre restored condition. I guess/hope your "burning" comment is flippant and I expect it would break your heart as much as it would mine to see a boat like that gone. I genuinely believe she's really good value at that price. I also appreciate that performace wise she won't sparkle, but that's not the point. I'd say, if you must sell and don't want the costs, bring her ashore and find somewhere cheap to keep her, like a friends driveway, or a yard/farm etc somwhere and persevere with the sale.

What a lot of work and what a very pretty boat. She's priced reasonably and looks very well restored. I can only assume that your advertising isn't spread wide enough.

A beautiful little yacht, very similiar to a Johnson & Jago 18ft we had until our second child necessitated an upgrade.
I haven't sailed much in your area, but I might suggest that she is not ideal for there?
She would be perfect for Thames estuary creek crawling so perhaps advertising in the Southeast might be an idea.
Good luck, she deserves a good home.

4 days to go yet.
With regard to Mariposa. I looked at the Hillyard owners site and there are a forest of boats for sale. There are quite a few 2.5 tonners.
The thing that strikes me is that Mariposa may be too cheap. Some only slightly bigger boats are on for a lot more. Some real basket cases, not an awful lot less. This may undersell Mariposa.
I'd still think that the Boats and Outboards and Appollo Duck sites are the places to be.
Depends on the arrangement with the broker, who may demand a % of a private sale.

Thanks for the feedback. I think some of your comments are valid. Mariposa's not the right boat for the Clyde and I could do with focusing my advertising.
I'd hate to break her up, I really would. Especially after so much work.
Come the new year I'll take another look at my options.
