Anyone know what size (litres) the fuel tank is on a mariner 2.5 hp outboard? I cannot find it in the manual and I need the correct amount for fuel/oil ratio.
Thanks
the easiest thing to do is buy a fuel measuring bottle from machine mart. They measure out a litre of fuel and have bit on top which measures the correct oil ratio. ie 25% 35% 50% etc. It is perfectly adequate for a small o/b with an interagal tank. They are sold for 2 stroke mix for small garden machinery things like chainsaw and hedge cutters. Brilliant bit of kit.
Yep could do that, but it is brand new so first tank is at 25:1 then after that 50:1. Mixing 5 litres at 25:1 would be too much. If I knew size of tank then for first mix could make up exactly what I want then revert to 5litre can method. Yes I could fill the tank then empty it, that would tell me how much it holds...messy though....just thought someone might know the tank size
Knowing the tank size only helps if you (a) always wait for it to run out before re-filling and (b) fill to the brim every time.
For those engines BTW, the ratio is stretched to 100:1 to meet emission regulations. At that ratio the engine is running on the edge and a little error can do big damage. Better to be a bit generous with the oil, perhaps going for 75:1
The Tohatsu is the same engine, and I ran mine in on 5l of 25:1 before going to 50:1. Consumption was given as 1.4 l per hour flat out , and running in was for 5 hours so I ran in for 5 l of fuel.... QED
