Marine Traffic AIS

Yes, but that was 16 years ago and it’s had all the effect of a toddler stamping its foot. Which suggests to me that most nation states in the IMO aren’t too fussed about Marine Traffic et al. The genie is out of the bottle and there’s no way to stuff it back in. For those seriously worried about their vessel data appearing on the web, only fill in the MMSI on your transceiver; that’s all that Marine Traffic will display.
That is the basic workaround.

A few years ago cyclists didn't wear helmets, google and facebook and the likes didn't have to show you information they track, there was no gdpr (by the way in my opinion the "do you accept..." messages on every website that we all accept without reading is worse to the users than before).

New environments require new rules for us to live a little safer.

Turning a blind eye and doing nothing is normally not the best option.
The genie is out and i don't want to put it back in. That would be stupid.

It does.not make sense that you dont want anyone to track your car (or your kid's car maybe a better example) and want to limit the tracking of web navigation but dont care about tracking your boat.

And again: it is the tracking and notifications functionality without the opt out that bother me the most

Then contact the Office of the Information Commissioner and make a complaint. Make a complaint

There is nothing we can do here, apart from chew the fat.
