Can anyone point me in the direction of a marine plywood supplier near the Southampton/Fareham area.

The size I'm after is 1520mm L x 350mm W x 6mm thick

It's actually to replace a rotten soffit board on my house roof, so not a boat job this time and, as the remaining facia/soffit boards are wood, I don't want to replace this small section with a plastic board.....before someone suggest this alternative!

Many thanks!

The plumbing suplies shops have marine ply, its used to line showers before the tiles are put on. I have even seen it at B&Q but you might get more choice in sizes at the larger plumbing merchants,

The B&Q stuff isnt good, I found gaps in the glue layer. I think it was Jewsons? that I bought mine from, on the roundabout between Long Lane, HMS Collingwood and the retail park just outside Fareham, but that was some years ago.

If you are contemplating buying anything from B&Q, firstly check the Harrods &Harvey Nicholls web sites to see if you can get it cheaper first. I wanted some varnish but a million pounds (or a figure not far from that) was just a bit high for me.

:encouragement: B&Q - Everything you could possibly imagine except what you actually need. As for the pricing, I'd get a ban for saying what I really think. Suffice it to say, I got a box of 200 screws from Toolstation for less than the price of 5 in B&Q

But Wickes exterior ply is very good, certainly good enough for soffit boards. I've posted before that I tested a piece of Wickes 12mm untreated in salt water for weeks with no sigh of de-lamination. Used it painted for the floor in an old RIB for ages with no problems.

Just to close this thread, I bought the marine ply from Bamptons in Southampton yesterday......excellent service, cut to size while I waited and reasonable price.

A note for anyone looking for marine ply. Once upon a time I wanted several 8 x 4 sheets of marine ply in various thicknesses, and I had read that the proper stuff was marked with a BS1088 quality stamp and maybe a Lloyds Register one. I called the local Travis Perkins timber yard (Faygate, W. Sussex) and asked if they did such a thing. They said no, but hang on while they ring the warehouse at Shoreham Harbour (where the stuff is offloaded from ships). They said yes, they had it at Shoreham, and if I ordered some they'd get it sent up for me. A few days later it was in my garage. I've still got some left. Mind you that was a long time ago but I see no reason why it may not still be true. Worth a phone call..

My Experience of Wickes and B&Q "Marine ply" is that the sheets are often riddled with voids and delaminations even to the extent of falling apart. In both "places" I have had to rake through large piles of sheets to find just one fit for use. The very worst was when I was looking for 20 sheets of 18mm for a flat roof. I rejected the first two loads on the basis of quite obvious delamination, they were so bad the first sheet off the second load fell apart. That was from a "propper" timber yard too, not a DIY Store.
