Marine Navigator app now has AIS

Sorry for pulling up an old post. I have a question very much related to this post.

I am using Marine Navigator on a tablet (sony xperia) with charts from VMH and I’m happy with it. I have recently added the AIS function to the Marine Navigator via a Matsutec HP-33A AIS transponder and a Quark Wi-Fi hub. It all works very well except for one thing. On the display I get my position from the tablet and the AIS. I effectively keep crashing in to myself!
Does anybody have any ideas on how to avoid this? I suppose I need to find a way of blocking my position as sent out by the AIS. But how??

There was a bug in the earlier versions of the software for the Matsutec transponder. You should upgrade to the latest version. The bug in the Matsutec is outputting its own boat position in addition to any other boat position to your plotter in the nmea VDM sentence. It should only output this as a VD0 sentence.
I got around it in open cpn by using the ignore facility that allows you to input the mmsi number of any target you dont ever want to display. I must get around to up dating the software in the HP33A!

I've just ordered an androip tablet with ais and marine navigator as I wanted something that could overlay ais onto raster charts plus was looking for automatic chart swapping at zoom which it seems to do well.

seemingly it lacks a divider/bearing and distance function but this could be me!

I don't think it has a live tide arrow/height either but that's not a game changer whereas decent charts and ais is for me

anyway we'll see but i'm hopeful

I began to think that too. I was used to Navionics until my son wiped my charts off the tablet. I have only had a play out at sea once with Marine Navigator but the quick divider/bearing and distance is done by dragging the chart sideways so that the point of interest to you is in the centre of the screen. It then gives you that info albeit not as nicely as Navionics. Have a look in the settings as you can get it to do bearings or distance or whatever different options. Meanwhile let me know if you get an MMSI number when you click on a AIS target. I didn't but got a fair bit of other info.

That's very interesting thank you TSB240. I will have to look into updating my unit. I presume there are instruction in the manual on how to do the update?!
