Thanks. Got them to have a look and advise. However no further contact from them and not returning my calls. I guess they do not want the job. It does not bode well for me giving them any further work!

Never did hear back from Advance Marine so researched on line and did it myself saving some dosh. Satisfying but don't think I will ask them to do my major engine service in the autumn.

Most suppliers are like that at the moment, not just in boating but also in the building trades.
There's a marine engineer in Plymouth, well known to many, treated me like dirt. Absolute barstewards.
I've seen booms like this before, they never last.
At some point they'll be desperate for work and worrying how they are going to cover the payroll and their own mortgages.
But we will remember how they treated us.

Sadly, your experience of Advance Marine is not just due to the current situation.

As a long time berth holder in Portishead Marina, I've given up with Advance. When they do respond (rarely), the work's never done on time.

The new(ish) marina owners Boatfolk now have a team offering boat care, one of whom is Jo Line who was highly regarded GRP specialist when she was in business on her own. I understand Boatfolk have also recruited an engine specilaist but I've no idea whether he is any good. For my engine work I still use an ex-Mermaid guy based in the Poole area - but he doesn't much like travelling to Bristol

Thanks. I thought I would get one job done by Advance and one by Boatfolk. Only Boatfolk delivered so I know who I will have to use in the Autumn for a major service on the 2 engines.

Plus 1 for Jo but I must say Advance have never done me a bad deal.
They are busy so sometimes you have to wait, but call in, have a chat and get your boat in the diary.

Advance Marine did a good job repairing an outboard motor for me .Charged a reasonable amount and were pleasant to deal with.

I found Advance respond well to regular clocking in, like Sneds. I also used SOS Boatservices, based at Gloucester but happy to travel to Portishead. Alan is fantastic and hugely knowledgeable

Hi Rafiki - I agree with both your comments. I'm very glad to hear Alan is still working. And with Jo Line based at Portishead too I am now thinking of bringing the boat there for some work, if I can get a berth and a lift-out.

Hope you are well.

All good thank you. We are between boats atm, lady wife has been a bit poorly and couldn’t cope with the boats movement. Hoping this is temporary so we can find another Azi.
Hope all well with you and yours too?
