I've recently moved my boat to Gosport; I have a few things I need looked at, my electric windlass is playing up, my fixed VHF needs looking at as well as a few other minor things.
Can anyone recommend good local company(s) I can contact to get the work done?
Thanks for any advice.

I've only ever had occassion to use Gosport Boat Yard for electrical work. I had my yacht (now sold) down there one winter and they rewired the main circuit for me.

The work was very well done, but their customer care was pretty rubbish. I had to keep calling over a three week period to find out when the work was going to be done despite an assurance thzt someone was going to do it within a couple of days of the initial instruction.

So, good work, but not great at keeping promises or keeping the customer updated.

That was two years ago, so things may have changed.

Malcolm Morland (Hat Man, you will know why when you see him) or might be Morling, who is a live aboard in Haslar is quite reliable for general engineering repairs and costs less than most marine engineers
Get his number from the haslar year book or call the marina office

Can't recommend Hillyards (Hilliards?), they rebuilt the Volvo out drive for the previous owner of my boat for £1000 & it leaked water within a month, what with lift out/in cost him a small fortune

Seems you may already have the answer. I used Gosport Boatyard for the first time this year for annual maintenance - excellent job and a real delight to work with - nothing seems too much trouble. Ocean Electronices are good, they have a specialist on Marine Electronics (Mike) and a good general capability through Peter - speak to Brian for scheduling of jobs as they tend to be V. busy. THey'll also source anything they cannot do themselves although you may choose to go direct. There is also an excellent shipwright, Peter Jack, on 07887751739 - I had him repaint the waterline stripes on my Princess 40 a while back - very thorough.
