Hi Will!!
Good grief, I'm just a simple chap honestly!! I wasn't seeking 'hi-fi' or 'cinema' type quality, just to hear reasonably decent sound. Frankly I've put off buying a CD/tuner until now 'cos I couldn't see the point in getting very high quality sound for such a lousy, noisy environment. I entirely agree with you re. the speaker wattage and have chosen pretty basic ones for the saloon which, as you say, don't give a particularly brilliant output for sound (groan) engineering principles. We tend to use the 'loud' button more here for that reason.
With the cockpit speakers it's a bit different. These are set almost vertically in the cockpit coaming, but to starboard have the huge cockpit locker to provide resonance, and to starboard, the whole 1/4 berth to do the same. The sound (probably aided by the high quality and expensive waterproof Pioneer speakers) is fabulously better, and the 'loud' button seldon needs using.
I suspect Demonboy may be seeking a far higher quality than me, and it may be quite difficult to achieve on a boat with all the extraneous noises.
cheers Jerry
