£46 for 500ml of what?

I don't have diesel bug but I do have 1000l of diesel in the tanks and about to top them off with another 200+, quite an investment in these days so I'm hoping this will not only look after the fuel but prevent any damage to the injectors and pumps. It says used by the RNLI but I do wonder if it is provided to them FOC as a marketing ploy, I wouldn't have thought fuel in their tanks is in there long enough to get diesel bug?

Anyone got any thoughts if the stuff actually works or am I just another mug who has fallen for clever marketing ?20221013_174947_resize_8.jpg

I’ve used marine 16 for the last couple of years and soltron most years before. I’ve also had a year or two where I’ve had no treatments in the tank. The tank is always topped full over winter and the filler cap is in good condition and does not leak water in. Never had bug but I’m not sure which, if any, of the above factors might correlate to that.

Are you using Red or White? Where do you buy your fuel? What is the occurrence of fuel bug in your area?

I am convinced that you get a dose of the bug by purchasing fuel from outlets that have low turnover of stock.

Ramsgate red but from the 'Leisure' fuel pontoon, not the commercial unfortunately but they do still have a reasonably high turnover and regular visits from a bowser. As far as I know, not many occurrences of the bug, good luck, hight turnover or the magic of the miracle Marine 16? Quite a few berth holders on my pontoon recommended it, hence my purchase but at least the above comments endorse my purchase.

I've been using Marine 16 for over five years and so far so good. It's not that expensive when you consider the tiny doses required. One bottle has lasted me years

I've used Marine 16 for several years now after getting the bug. Not had any since, I use white road diesel as my local boatyard stopped selling it to leisure users because of the paperwork involved.

What is it about the homemade plain white label that you consider clever marketing?

As others have said, the tiny, tiny dose makes it cheap enough. I go through a small bottle (maybe £15?) every two years or so and I massively go over the dosage because it's too hard to measure for 100l of fuel which I think is less than a teaspoon. I give it one small glug for the tank and the same for jerry cans.

Its like a Rope Cutter ..... you can never know if it really does stop you having problem.

People will say - xxxx product instead of yyyy ... use aaaaa ..... etc. etc. - its all based on personal bias and rarely on real evidence. If a boater doesn't suffer bug and is using product xxxx ... he will say xxxx ....

Like you I use small doses, but I made the mistake of buying a large container (grotmar) . I nearly used the last of it this week and noticed the use by date of 2017, I did'nt think I had had it that long. Will check the bottle when I buy some more though ;)

Its worth taking note of the date that test was made .... the test that was used and to title it "best" is a bit OTT .... They do not have access to 'trade additives'.
I note from the article, published in 2016, that there 7 biocide products under test. Around 2010 my other half was SeaStart's fount of all knowledge on the bug, I'm fairly sure there were then only 2 biocides on the general market. If my memory is anything like accurate, the number of other products reflects the problems FAME is causing in low turnover installations - boats, heating oil, farming etc

It kills the bacteria and possibly has a cleaning agent for cleaning injectors.
So what happens to all the dead bacteria falling to the bottom of the tank creating the slime which then gets sucked up and blocks your filters?
It still does not deal with the water in the fuel which seems to be the cause of the problems in the first place.
Can't see that your that much better off using it ?

It was actually a reprint of an article / tests made in 2011 ... scroll down the page ...
