After posting my idea of a berth in S of France and being told 12 months is a no go I am looking at Italy and just along the coast?
There is Sanremo but not sure what its like?
I hard the berth costs were lower in those parts in Italy than France but can’t find reliable source on costs plenty of websites on the marinas but no costs displayed?
Alternatively I can leave boat in current berth as owner owns it and will not get new boat for a while or take it back to Spain?
Its 17 meters so awkward size it seems.

I like the look of Antibes so will try them for short term berth maybe or if anyone else has any ideas let m know.

17m is tricky for Antibes, unfortunately. The two nearest berth sizes are 15x5 and 23x6; as an owner, you can get away with putting a 17m boat on most 15x5 berths in PV (it does depend on the specific berth though; the official tolerance is 10%). However, as a renter, unless you are a local with cute small children to deploy as a distraction tactic, they will almost certainly require you to rent a 23x6, which in the summer season is €2600 per month (half that in the winter).

I like San Remo, it's not as easy to get to from the airport as Antibes from Nice, but the staff are nice and iirc it is cheaper than Port Vauban. The town has a lot to offer; you could argue that there aren't as many immediately local nice anchorages as Antibes, perhaps.

The other cheap option in Italy near France could be Ventimiglia but I don't know how complete that marina is yet.

Try a PM to SammyB on here. She raves about San Remo. You could get a berth there and then join the waiting lists for an annual in SoF. As an idea an annual 18m berth in Beaulieu is €23218.65. You get a 10% discount for paying before 31 Jan each year.

Sunseeker France have a 20m berth at San Remo for sale at €120 000. The lease runs until Dec 2024. Man maths makes that €15000 a year.

+ €5,000 a year service charge = €20,000.

The couple of times I've been into Imperia there seems to be a lot of free space, so you may find a rental berth there, but of course it's another 10 miles from Nice Airport and from the SoF cruising grounds, and I can't say I was charmed by the place.

Yeh SR is quite nice as place.,but service charge is at the high end
Prob is its a good 1hr+ or so to some where decent to anchor up
€60K here until 2024

Btw prob with a "promise " of staying on by proposed seller is promises can be broken .
Ive booted tenants out of my two berths twice -cos -well I got a boat at short notice on both occiassions -14 days notice -out pal !
My advise would be buy the berth first in the desired location -then fit the boat to it ,the easy part of the two transactions.
It helps narrow down the field too -normally beam related .
Put a tenant in it until search is over -it will return more than 0.5 % in a Bank into a forgien account if you wish .

CRS is coming to get you, or already has!

Just to give some info on Antibes pricing, there is currently a 15x5 for sale on mole sud (the premium quai) asking €149k for which you get six seasons (till 31.12.2021) and you will be in pole position to buy/rent it after that. No-one pays asking price so let's say it is 130k. That is 21k euros per season plus service charge so e25k. Not saying whether that's good or bad value - it is what it is. Your neighbour would be nick_H, (it is my old berth Nick) so that is worth some premium surely?!

You can easily get a 17m on this - I owned it 2003 till 2010 and kept two Squadron 58s on it (ok, not at the same time!)

You could also offer 100k and see how you get on. Market is soft on pricing but not at all stationary on transaction volume. 23x6 are asking 130k on less premium quais in the port though will be/are being snapped up at those prices

FWIW I do not think it is worth spoiling ship for 1/2d of tar and so I wouldn't berth in Imperia/SR etc. They don't have enough local nice cruising grounds and the airport is a schlepp and a half. macanderson did it right as a newcomer to SofF - he has one of the premium anchorages on the planet 500m from his port entrance and several others <10 miles either side.

Ok thanks for the advice I was only thinking of a season and then heading back to Spain and Denia.
Its a close hope to Ibiza but as the boat is in France thought I would stay a year but that be difficult!

It's not impossible to find a rental berth for 12 months in Cote d'Azur, I think we were all just trying to forewarn you that it's not easy and takes some work, and maybe involves being flexible on location and paying a premium over normal rates. You at least have the advantage of your boat being there, so if you're offered something you could move in straight away. Boat owners phoning the port from the UK trying to arrange something in advance have less than zero chance.

I haven't done this personally, but one way to try and secure a long term rental is to take a short term visitor berth for a few days, get to know the port staff, then try to make a "special arrangement" with them. Your side of the special arrangement will be delivered in a white envelope.

If you want a rental in Antibes I would go right now. There are definitely spaces available, so if you take a short term berth you can then evolve to a whole year as nick says. By mid june or July these slots will all be taken. some of them have been empty nearly all winter. 23x6 and 15x5
Alos just for the week of Voile d'antibes there are no rentals available, but that's just one week
