Am thinking of moving my boat from Lagos (Portugal) to either the Canaries or possibly into the Western Med for a season mainly because although I love Portugal, the cost of keeping my boat there is unaffordable in the summer. Presently I'm on a 9 month berthing contract which expires in June. I can find places in the Western Med but I can't find any information about rates for marinas in the Canaries. I spent the whole of yesterday evening googling for marina websites but couldn't find a single dedicated website. There's lot's of general info but none specific to a marina quoting actual rates and terms etc - well, not that I could find anyway.

Main requirements are easy/cheap access by air, reasonable security and fair prices.

The obvious one is Muelle de Deportivo at Las Palmas on Gran Canarias which I've visited several times but I'm not really that fussed about which island or which marina! I just want to find a couple of marina websites to look at to see the sort of charges they make. Or if anyone has first hand knowledge of 12 month contract prices for a 39 feet boat - that would be useful.

Any recommendations for reasonably priced marinas on the Costas would also help me make up my mind between Western Med and Canaries. I suppose I'd consider a fair annual rate to be about £3k +/- or am I up a gum tree thinking that level of rate is achievable?

Finally, I don't suppose there are any safe, boatyard maintained ,swinging moorings to rent or even buy, in either of those areas?

Cheers, Brian.

Not the region you are looking for, but Port Leucate in the south of France (25 miles from the Costa Brava) costs me 3700 Euros for 18m (actually I am 20m but last year did not pay for the bow sprit - it will be interesting to see what happens this year).

Most other places in med France are full up and 50% - 100% more expensive.

There are some good ones, try the imray atlantic islands. I am familiar with a few commercial ones on lanzarote, and a public on on fuerteventura (corralejos) that are reasonably priced. A bit of a secret tip (hoho) is isla graciosa just north of lanzarote, very affordable but not particularly close to the airport.
