Thinking of a possible move of the boat to the Solent. Can anyone recommend an all tides accessible marina/boatyard (pontoon) with electricity and shower facilities at the top end of the Hamble that is not too expensive?

As Einstein said - Everything is relative - It must be cheaper at the top end of the Hamble than at the bottom end. But I stand to be corrected

An acquaintance of ours has taken a mooring at Foulkes' Boatyard (the same people who run the Chandlery Barge above Swanwick Bridge). They speak very highly of the friendliness of their fellow boat owners, and of the atmosphere at the yard. It has pontoon moorings and boatyard facilities. There is a loo block but I'm not sure if that includes showers.

Haven't looked at the prices but I'm guessing they're cheaper than further downriver.

You'd need to be able to get under the bridge at Swanwick which, although regularly negotiated by the products of A Certain British Motor Boat Builder, can pose various challenges :)

Several

Universal, Warsash side, facilities ok, bit of a drag around the lanes to get to.

Moody's is a Permiere Marina I think, possibly the best of the bunch, facilities ok, doghouse bar used to be reasonable.

There is Deacon's, more boat yard than Marina but does have facilites, not used them so not sure if they are any good.

Cabin boatyard at the back of Chinese is just that, a boat yard. No facilities.

Foulkes Chandlery Barge up Blundell Lane, if ramshackle is your thing, ladies will not be impressed with the somewhat hazardous facilities.

Eastlands above the motorway, not sure about facilities.

Filthy.

Toilet facilites are vile stinking filthy portaloos, no showers. It is cheapest walk ashore moorings on the river though.

Prices :

Funnily enough, it was the wife who was enthusing about the place! But she is quite a tough cookie and used to roughing it on a selection of rather decrepit "previously enjoyed" boats so a grotty loo block may not bother her much. Their latest project is an aged Windy with ancient and unreliable twin petrols ...

Eastlands is ok, a longish walk to boat only 1 toilet and shower per men same per women, good rates for lift out nice newish pontoons, some probs with speeding boats if on outside pontoon, HM not interested and theft, my dinghy and engine was tampered with.

I have friends at cabin its cheaper but rickety pontoons and 1 toilet.

Bridges not too much of a problem unless HW springs you have to be under 4m high to get under, its never bothered me and im 4.5m you just need to plan a bit, sort of gets you out of bed, also means you can stay in sometimes too!!

No one has mentioned RK Marine. First on right as you go under the bridge going up stream.

Toilets and showers are OK. They are Volvo agents so handy when you want engine service.

Not many berths but easy to get to off the main road.
