Marina's and popular anchorages in north west spain

Re: Marina\'s and popular anchorages in north west spain

Galicia was always a poor region and has been neglected by Madrid, even to this day,The region suffers from nil planning, people out to make a fastbuck, ignorance and aform of local war lords that still buy and sell political favours. It now has a newly elected socialist government instep with central government in Madrid so maybe some progress can be made, they have squandered the money given to the area to pull it self up .Looking around you may wonder where all the money comes from because there is no shortage of lux ury cars and any number of really nice country homes financed with european money, suposedly for Turismo Rural!

I do not want to hijack the thread, but I am currently thinking about chartering in Galicia in early june. What sort of weather should I expect (SWMBO is afraid of cold and grey stormy weather)?
Thanks in advance,

Holger

Well normally nice and sunny without being too hot.Summer weather tends to mean windless mornings with the wind building from the north in the afternoon, june will be a mixture with some westerlys.June you will avoid the crowds, but the water is not too warm. Hasta la Vista!!!

The easy response is to take a look at my web site www.distantdrum.co.uk the 2005 passages.

NW Spain is the best Spain has to offer, although you won’t get the temperature of the South. Asd a quick guide:
Bilbao marina doesn’t exist so don’t’ try finding – it is actually Getxo. Very expensive and rude marina staff. The Real Club Nautica opposite is better value and far better facilities.
Santander – Expensive and way out from anywhere other than the airport.
Santona – nice spot but “Cabarons” 23€ per night for a mooring buoy and they won’t let you anchor.
Gijon – Nice city marina.
Riberdeseller – Beautiful town and free mooring against the wall but no facilities.
Lastres - Beautiful town and free mooring against the wall but no facilities.
Luarca - Beautiful town and free mooring on a public buoy but no facilities. Watch the entrance as C-Maps are way out.
Aviles – An industrial dump
Tapia - Beautiful town and free mooring against the wall but no facilities. The entrance is narrow and C-MAP cartography is out.
Ria Vivero – Fantastic Ria anchorage behind a little island
Vivero Marina is really good but not complete so facilities are not brilliant, but close to the town.
Cederia – Anchorage only and we found it foul, others didn’t.
La Coruna – okay city but expensive marina
Camarinas – Good anchorage and nice little marina but the town is dirty.
Portosin, Ria Muros – Excellent marina and nice spot.
Caraminal – Okay marina but the marina staff insist in having the VHF Ch 9 on loud speaker.
Islas Cies – Don’t miss this anchorage
Bayona – Nice marina and Town
