Marina wifi feedback please

I tend to use my mobile and set it up as a local hotspot for WiFi to run my other devices off, but the signal where we moor can be weak at times - dropping to one or two bars.

I'm thinking of fitting a mobile signal booster but I have no idea how good they are or even if they work. Has anyone tried this and if so were the results good enough to be worth the bother?

Don't know about a signal booster but we use a dongle with a permanently mounted external area (aerial +- £70 of I recall). Seems to work almost anywhere.

For the last 6 years or so we‘ve been using an iPhone as a hotspot for internet connection in Europe and UK. Occasionally the signal isn’t workable but it’s a day or two over a summer away. Hoisting it up the mast does occasionally results in a better signal but one or two bars on the phone is usually enough to support internet browsing including zoom calls and the like.
We use a bag and usb extension cable when we need to gain a bit of height But most of the time the phone sits on the chart table.

This is a handy facility which I often use at committee meetings held at our local marina and even have other folk tapping in who can not get a signal from their provider.

Try hoisting it up the mast or to the spreaders first - I have found this makes all the difference in some locations.

I put it in a plastic bag with a power bank connected so I can be sure it won't run out of battery.
