Marina Rule Breakers

I think you would all be better off on a swinging mooring - pity there aren't enough for everyone.

Some of us live vast distances from our preferred cruising area, and so rely on the security of the marina to make it possible. I wouldn't sleep at nights if Capricious was on a swinging mooring; as it is I can be reasonably sure that she is tucked up safe and sound, waiting for the next time I can get there. And I am a few minutes from open water!

Oddly enough, I feel much happier when my boat is on a swinging mooring, out of the way, then when she is on a pontoon, near boats manouvering at close quarters and easily accessible by evil-minded toerags. I only keep the Jouster on a pontoon at the moment because if you have a 4' fin keel in SW Scotland there isn't an alternative!

What a thread! I don't particularly like marinas, most seem pretty soul less places. But it does seem common courtesy to consider others. However at PYH where I think the original poster berths, there are no rules as such, only guidelines (just checked the contract), which seems eminently sensible. Far too many rules and regulations elsewhere for them to be carried over into our leisure activity.
Surely better to have a friendly attitude and speak to someone who may be upsetting you, maybe they don't realise they're causing a problem. 9 times out of 10 works better than being unpleasant about it.

Have a look on the bridge gate . It clearly states No cycling on pontoons .

Oh I see. Well my marina does not make rules about cycling and the only rule about dogs is posted on a sign near the bridge, which is oft photographed by visiting grockles. I can't remember the exact wording, I may photograph it tomorrow, but it basically says that something about dog poo and the marina CCTV.

Is this it?

The best method of dealing with crapping dogs is to teach them to somersault as follows:
1. Line dog up with head facing open water.
2. Take 3 large steps backwards.
3. Return swiftly towards dog.
4. Apply toe of seaboat to dog's rear end.
5. Watch dog somersault into water.
6. Repeat until dog trained not to ****
7. Accept applause/gifts etc from others affected by dogs.
8. If encounter remonstrations from dog owner apply 1-6 above substituting
owner for dog.

The dog's hardly to blame. We're the ones that are supposed to have achieved a civilised society. I'd suggest replacing the dog with the dog's owner and repeating until the "owner" learns to let the dog **** on his property - not to carefully take it somewhere where everybody else suffers but him.
