Its not so much about the price, its more about the lack of facilities there.
The office is only open during normal office hours (although 8.30 - 18 30 during the summer), and used to be closed for lunch.
Open Sat am, then a mobile number for after hours.
No laundry.
Only 4 showers, 2 male & 2 female.
Only 4 toilets, as above plus 3 urinals.
Poor security, the gate code was only changed once in the 3 years we were there; and its the worst kept secret in Aber'. Same code for toilets!
No internet access.
Fuel only available during the office hours.
No chandlery in Aber.
If you are more than 1.5m draft access is only HW +/- 2.5 hrs.
Electricty is metered and was something like 17p per unit!
This why people are moaning. The only other reasonable marinas with room are Holyhead or Milford, Pwllhelli is full and claims tohave 5 year waiting list. Dead mens shoes for the town quay, locals don't get a discount in Aber. Yes its still cheaper than most places on the south coast, but those places tend to all the facilities that people want in the basic price.
On the plus side Aber, is great town, it has a lively social scene with plenty of shops in walking distance, the boat club was cheap but a good walk from the marina, (we used to dingy over).
There are of course alternatives to the expensive marinas - have downgraded to swinging mooring on South Coast: 13.2m for 6 month season is £800 including harbour charges. Sheltered worry free spot and no ropes/springs to mess with and no fender scuff of course. Personal thing, but I prefer to be looking at the coastal view and easy sailing on/off mooring, rather than stacked in a marina like sardines and only being able to see the white slab side of a flybridge either side. If you want cheaper then a back-to-basics can be a refreshing change away from the pack?

What I should have said:-
I think this is what the owners haven't twigged to - that if you live in the Midlands you can get to North or South Wales or the East Coast of England just as quickly if not quicker than Aberystwyth.
Where there are cheaper moorings available!
If that fails you can become a ditch lover and buy a narrow boat!

Each time I launch my dinghy and row up the river, I shall think of you guys in your luxurious berths, water and electricity, restaurants close etc. etc. and take some consolation that charge for my mooring has only just gone up to £50 ( fifty pounds ) a year.
Now .... what shall I spend the spare money on.... ?
