Hi,

Our marina fees have just gone up 22%. It is the same owner of the marina, no additional facilities have been added so it seems an outrageous amount.

Can they do this or are berths subject to any regulations.

Hi,

I will check on Monday just to make sure it is not a mistake, but I doubt it. I will let you know the marina then when I have confirmed prices. It is on the Hamble though.

Much to our disgust!

Unfortunately there is not a lot of choice in the Solent other than MDL and MDL, oh there is a nice MDL marina....!

So we are paying more to sit next to a load of building work, marvelous. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

MDL is not the only company actually ...... a look around will show that .. plus the phone book has a few in.
Problem is if you want the all-singong/dancing etc. then MDL or Premiere is about the lot !!

Off the top of my head, theres Yacht Haven group (eg Lymington Yacht Haven), Dean & Reddyhoff (eg East Cowes)

Ever thought of moving to Scotland? Far cheaper, friendly people and fantastic scenery, some days never see another boat......Ryanair Bournemouth to Prestwick 55mins and on average £12 return!!..oh! then maybe thats not a good idea for us...dont want it to end up like the Solent....Suggest you just pay the price and enjoy!!

Still going south currently in Corsica for winter

Hate to rub salt in ... but how about a swinging mooring, & yes they are available. maybe not in the Solent but a little further west.
£750 & you have a mooring for life. A marina is very convenient for the winter but that’s only £500, I know what Yacht Haven charge & I'm sorry but unless you are very very well paid, I just find it unbelievable that anyone with a 30’+ boat can afford £3500 ++ for a mooring & that's after tax!

Despite all my moaning, I do actually quite like Ocean Village, right next door to the club, easy access via road and water, all the facilities. Just a bit annoying having to pay sooooo much for it./forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Hi,

Looks like I am not the only one, 11% is also pretty high. I can't see how they can justify the increase, I suppose it is like parking spaces in London, there is little alternative.

As to the suggestion to move, I would love to go to Scotland, but we went out today to see the Queen Mary II (thinking of upgrading from my 29') and it was quite cold. If it had been Scotland we would have frozen to the deck. Scotland is fantastic though and the people are very friendly.
