Marina Fee Increase

I thought the Gallows Point development wasn't approved because it would contravene fishing laws?

Not laws I think. The developers came up against the very powerful fishing industry, who seemed to have unlimited funding to fight their cause. They managed to convince the authorities that discharge from the proposed marina would contaminate the mussel beds. As anyone who has cruised in mainland Europe would know, mussel and oyster beds thrive alongside marinas, and in some cases in them, but in the end money talked.

Maybe there's more than one marina proposal there, but this article is worth reading, and suggests that the Appeal Court ruled that there would be a breach of the Sea Fisheries (Shellfish) Act 1967 - http://www.abcpm.co.uk/marina/pages/news.html

You guys have many intangible benefits by being at PD. It's not far from your home. Probably the friendliest, most sociable fellow berthholders in the area.

Why not ask the owner when the toilets / showers are due for refurbishment?

Agreed David.

The key point is that the Marina will literally be overflowing with effluent as many boat users and visitors choose to pass on using the inadequate and shared toilet facilities with the Cafe!

I suspect that a check by the rivers agency for pollution would result in some hefty fines judging by what I saw on my only dive in the dock this year to clear our prop.

Ducks dont have asses that big for it to be described as Duck Shite!

I have since found out that If I pay up front rather than monthly that I can actually pay less than last year!

Fine as long as this lot don't go belly up like the last!

With improved cash flow the owner should be able to bring forward his aspirations for a dockside ablution block that would match the Yachties ideal.

Yes, you are correct. That ruling came a long way down the line after every effort by ABC to proceed with the marina was countered by the fishing industry. The mooring I used for many years a couple of hundred metres from Gallows Point has now been cleared away, along with many others. It all seems very petty when the relatively huge area available for fishing is seen.
