Marina electricity

I asked about it based on the fact that anyone could use my plug as the code didn't work, apparently there are two sections to it so if you put on £50 you don't get £50 worth based on the kWh charge as some of that has to go towards standing charges which complicates it even further because one tariff is 5% vat and the other 20% vat. Bonkers yes I know. BTW its in with the mooring charge at my new establishment.

Sssh - we're already full - best kept secret on the river. My fear is Anthony knows he is full and he even has a waiting list now, so I fear the rates may rise a bit. BTW you were making some wake on your way out on Friday.
 
mine (York) charge 20p per unit and a service charge on top! When you bear in mind that they will be paying less than 7p per kwh nightime rate for seven hours and around 12p a unit daytime , I think is a tad high especially as it's only a 10 amp supply as well.
Sorry standing charge not sevice charge..

Sorry about wash, I got a message from Cabin about it, I was on tickover both engines pushing against the tide, the EDC won't allow the engines to sit below 650 rpm and unless I go on one engine which as I explained in my text the governors make the engines sit at 650 , taking one out of gear is impossible as the boat slews and can't be corrected by full over rudder at that speed. I guess being the other side the bridge I never noticed it as the current isn't as strong. Sorry if you spilt your G and T.

Sutton Harbour were charging over 19p per unit + a quarterly service charge of £29-50........apparently now 15p

Why not just ask Swanwick what margin they are charging on the leccy? Not sure why they'd keep it secret. It's not like you're going to spend £100mio setting up your own DNO to offer to undercut the cost to the other berthholders...is it? And no-one really expects that they aren't making a turn.

Don't mind at all. I haven't worked it out definitively over the year but if my atrocious maths is correct and using the statement pictured as a guide (allowing of course for summer usage) our annual bill will be upwards of £300 pa bearing in mind we are at the boat throughout most of the winter weekends aswell.
20p per day mon-fri then roughly £8.0 over sat & sun during winter and maybe half that over weekends during summer months.
Here's a screenshot of a typical statement covering a weekend this Feb. (don't think there's anything I shouldn't publish). I usually get to the boat late fridays and leave late sundays:

Na...I don't like to ask tbh. I've no reason whatsoever to think they're over charging, I just like to keep tabs on things every now and then and be sure the meter is working as it should be and not inadvertently providing anyone else with free leccy.
It really is just me dotting the 'I' s and crossing the 'T' s and keeping my house in order.

As against my appraoch to utilities bills which is generally to groan inwardly about the outrageousness of it all and then forget altogether about it.

As I understand it, the VAT element changes from 5% to 20% at the £30 threshold over a rolling month. We spend about £20 a month average on the berth right next to lisilou and in a normal year we stay aboard about the same amount. The main difference is we don't stay connected to shore power while not aboard with the exception of a thermostatically controlled supply over the winter months.

Nor do we have aircon units, ice makers, expresso machines, coffee grinders, fruit juicers, sun lamps, lava lamps, foot spa, hot tub, wide screen TV's, a laptop constantly logged into YBW and a hair dryer! :)

But they are great neighbours!
