I believe I may have come across the most expensive diesel in the UK . Last week I paid £1.41 per litre ( and that is with the 60:40 split allowance ) at Portavadie marina on Loch Fyne in Scotland . Previous to that I had filled up at Fairlie Quay just south of Largs at £1.11 per litre .

All though not siding with Portavadie Marina I can see why they have to charge at the rate they do, It is relatively remote without any major conurbation or supply depot nearby and no doubt they don't sell a lot of fuel as most boats will have refuelled further down the Firth of Clyde. It probably costs them a small fortune just to have a fuel supply available.

That is dearer than Tobermory, on an island, where the attendant has to walk about 1/4 mile from the garage to the fuel berth to unlock the pump. Cheapest so far this year by a considerable margin (40%) and with declaration signed was Flowerdale pier in Gairloch and they, unlike Tob. have a pump with a narrow dia. nozzle to fit a yacht intake and an automatic cut off that works. You will need a fender board here. The excuse that Portavadie is remote does not wash compared to Wester Ross but the low turnover reason is probably more valid. Flowerdale has fishing boats returning every week end and hosts a lot of whale chasers.

Portavadie sell petrol though, which would be a great bonus if I decide to take my boat to Tarbert next year. Do they fill jerry cans? In Tobermory they don't.
