I have just learnt that the newly built Marina d'Arechi in Salerno has a booth at the London Boat show (E022). I bought a (now) 76 year lease in 2014 for a 21m berth for a very advantageous price and, after two seasons there, I am seriously amazed that so few British mobos are based in this region. The Amalfi coast line, with Amalfi itself just 8nm away, is surely the most beautiful in all the Mediterranean with the equally fabulous islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida and the spectacular Bay of Naples all within easy cruising distance. The marina is equally well positioned for longer trips south to the fabled Aeolian Islands and Sicily too. My wife and I would love to have some fellow Brits join us at the marina. So anyone looking for somewhere different to keep their boat, with fabulous cruising and great weather, other than the usual suspects, I can highly recommend considering this marina.
 
Wow, it looks like they did a good job indeed, and with a beautiful scenario in the background, btw!
Is the last bit of land visible at the horizon Capri, or still the Sorrento Peninsula?

I am meeting with Sig. Agostino Gallozzi at the show tomorrow, and I will get a price list off him and post it here so you all can see what the costs are.

Thanks for sharing this info on your home berth, and congrats with your new boat in build,
I've alway's been attracted to this region because the former captain of my boat (previous owner) who became a good friend, lives in Maiori, (near Amalfi), and was / is alway's speaking so enthousiastic about the region and the nearby islands.

Last november (quite season) my mother stayed for a week on holiday in Maiori with a few friends and visited the region and all the cultural places with their private guide Alf. She was completely overwhelmed how beautifull its there.
I've navigated along that coast during my trip from SOF to Croatia/Montengro, but didn't have time to stop, nor explore the region.

For this year our plan is to sail along the Croatian coast to Venice, but for next year, I would like to visit the Amalfi region, and Sicily.
So I’m also interested to hear about mooring conditions and prices on short or semi long term.
How about the distance to the airport?
Is Naples the only nearby airport? How long drive to the marina ?

I think You're indeed the only forum member based in that region, so yes pls keep us informed about your explorations and discoverings

The "Costiera Amalfitana", or "Costiera" for short, is not included in the Unesco World Heritage List for nothing.
And btw, the coastal road is as breathtaking as it is when seen from the sea, if not even better.

By when are you planning to head N towards Venice this summer? I hope to have the opportunity to catch up in PM before you'll leave.
Btw, the whole Croatian coast, from Umag in Istria down to Dubrovnik, has been my commuting route for years.
Glad to give some suggestions, if you wish - though I guess you already know a lot of it by now! :)

the Croatian coast we know very well from south of Sibenic,
north of that we can use advice, but will make a separate thread for that before summer,
we plan to leave Porto Montenegro 1th or 2nd week of July until second week of august
for my plans for 2017 I almost wrote "perhaps South sardegna", but didn't want to make false promises ;-)
and I think that the Costiere can keep us entertained at least one full summer season :)

Out of interest, how would a complete non-IT speaker get on in this region? Is English spoken widely enough, not just in marinas and restaurants but also in shipyards and other marine contractors?

It certainly looks a nice cruising area, and a 75 year lease that may even appreciate in value is also attractive. MAFweiss, do you know what the berths sell for, and what the annual service charge is?
 
That coast line is very nice, and apart the very nice and expensive Sorrento Islands (I paid 480 EURO ex water and electricity with a 17 meter in July at Capri), you have also the very nice Gulf of Polinuro a bit down South. Up North you have also the Pontin Islands of Ventotene so quite a few cruising ground to run.
 
I've seen a feature on this marina in MBY recently and my first thought was, if you're moored at the far end of the marina, how long does it take to walk to some kind of civilisation ie shops/restaurants? Secondly the Amalfi coast is reputedly very crowded in summer and the visitor mooring fees go sky high. Is this true?

Sky high mooring fees make Carloforte look cheap! The bonus is its really pretty around the island and the "natives" on ANT are friendly...........:D:D:D

Carloforte is the cheapest place in the Med to moor I've found in 12yrs so its not a fair comparison!
 
Oi folks, just when I was beginning to convince the asylum that I'm based in a lovely place worth seeing, it's not fair to reveal that I'm actually just a tightwad.... :rolleyes:

The mooring services and conditions in the marina are first rate. Currently the nearest airport is Naples, which is well served with multiple flights a day by BA And Easyjet, out of Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, and this is a comfortable 50mins drive away on motorway nearly all the way. However there are ongoing and active plans to develop the small local airport into an international one; in that case Ryanair will undoubtedly get the UK slots. This airport is just 15 mins away, and could be a game changer for the marina for UK clients.

English is naturally quite widely spoken, but as anywhere you will also need to have some basic grasp of the language. You will find though that it is usually just the manager’s who speak English, and many workers will not.

The current list price of my 21m berth is €12,500 inc VAT, and my service charge is €4,600 inc VAT.

Capri town marina is notorious as one of the most expensive marina’s in the Med. You need to be able to afford it (and want it), in order to play with the ‘’big boy’s’’!!

It is important to note that the marina is still a work in progress. Though the maritime element is more or less complete, with the control tower to be finished this year, other ancilliary services are still to be done. Currently the marina is well served by a bar for coffee and drinks, as well as a very good restaurant where you can get a great pizza and also imaginative and well cooked local dishes. Another is planned to open either this year or next. Also a number of small retail units will open this year, with many more planned including a chandlery. Currently for shopping one has to take a short 5 – 10 min drive out of the marina to local shops and services, but this will change soon.

Naples, the surrounding islands and the Amalfi coast in August is of course very busy, and mooring fees at the most fashionable marinas are expensive, but no more so that in many other of the great holiday destinations on the Med. As always planning is required and if possible early reservations. But not everywhere is that expensive, and we stay for example in Procida for around 100-120 euros in August, and I surprisingly paid not much more to stay in Mergillana in the heart of Naples for that amount the previous year in high season.
